Oh don't get me wrong, I love all their albums (except MAYBE Breathe and the production values of Postcard). There's an awesome concert called Oils on the Water that basically has 10-1 and Red Sails for the whole show, except for Don't Wanna' be the One and Stand in Line. They also play Sleep for this show and I play that all the time on my bass (the bassline is so cool IMO). Giffo plays a chapman stick during this concert for it which was very surprising to see. Red Sails has a- dare I say it- almost prog-ish song in Shipyards of New Zealand. I think they only ever played it live a couple of times and I can't figure out why. Bakerman's kind of weak and so's Bells & Horns in the Back of Beyond but the rest is awesome. Maybe that'd be favorite #6 or 7 on my list.

They were a lot of fun, "devolving" right before our eyes as they played tracks from most recent to Are We Not Men? Paranoias had a wicked guitar solo (yes, DEVO played guitars back then ) and Mark Mothersbaugh was a heck of a front man. At one point he descended from the ceiling on a rope over the crowd. Not sure I'd want to see them today, in all their overweight glory.

Yes they did change with Green, but to an extent I think they really started to change with Lifes Rich Pageant. Stipe's voice was placed at a higher volume in the mix, and I felt the music itself was a lot more catchy, and even somewhat "streamlined" sounding... And then Green, Out of Time, Automatic for the People... all pop music. But some of the best ever in my opinion. I find Out of Time to be very warm and it reminds me of summer. So many great songs on that one for me... Document is definitely my favorite though. Welcome to the Occupation is the #1 song for me from that album. I actually would have Strangeways at #3, but it completely falls off track for me in the 2nd half of the record. EDIT: Scratch that, for me Meat is Murder is the #1 record.
