I've tried to cover all bases in terms of performers with some international profile. I look forward to being informed of the inevitable omissions!!. I'm taking 'Irish' to mean the island of Ireland.

In deference to FloydFanatic, I should point out the following -

The Edge was born in the UK, therefore U2 are ineligible

Scott Gorham was born in the US, therefore Thin Lizzy are ineligible

The Frames' guitarist Rob is Polish, therefore they're ineligible

Horslips' Charles O'Connor is English, so they're ineligible

Snow Patrol have Scottish members, therefore they're ineligible

Bottom line, Boyzone win by default!!!!!!

I'm still voting for Horslips though!!!!!!

u2 Or Rory Gallagher.

I can't choose.

i really can't.

U2 is a great band but with me some of there music is hit and miss.

While Rory is just an amazing blues artist, one of my favorites.

(Props to Thin Lizzy though having a couple of great songs i really love)

It was a dead heat between Westlife and Boyzone, mainly thanks to their courage in constantly releasing genre-pushing music (sometimes taking in prog and Philly-soul in the one track), not to mention their dextrous multi-instrumentalism. That and the fact that both groups got together and cured the common cold. Fabulous chaps the lot of them.

I couldn't decide, so I went with Rory instead.

RORY! RORY! RORY!

How did Van Morrison get left off?

I voted for U2, though only in reference to their 80-97 output, their last two albums were quite mediocre. Who cares where the Edge was born, U2 is indisputably Irish. No need to apologize to Floydfanatic.

And Finbar, I hope you don't mind if I use that next time I form a band. I like it a lot.

I voted U2 too. I didn't know The Edge wasn't Irish!? ohmy.gif

I'm a quarter Irish.

Shite, leaving off Ash was a major snafu on my part - They're actually from Downpatrick in Northern Ireland. Van Morrison was also a major oversight on my part, as indeed were Therapy.

My favourite would be Thin Lizzy, but since I am trying to be un-biased, based on World sales etc, U2 so my vote goes here.

Where's The Pogues Madra!!?? At least they should get a mention especially since you included WESTLIFE in the list rofl3.gif

Hey!

Gary Moore was born in North Ireland!

Although he did play on Thin Lizzy's classic "Black Rose" Gary does have a solid solo career as well.

Also there is a new Irish ROCK Band that kicks major guitar ASS!

The band is called GLYDER.

I am blasting their cd right now!

Hard Rock with a little Lizzy and Gallagher all wrapped up into one killer new band!

GLYDER ROXX!!!!!

Westlife and Boyzone??? Wtf? Manufactured crap!!

Obvious one on the list would be U2 but plenty other great music came out of Ireland...except for Daniel O'Donnell!!! z7shysterical.gif

As a nation, we collectively decided to write the Cranberries out of Irish musical history. It was the decent thing to do, putting the poor lambs out of their misery, thus reducing ours.

U2 or Thin Lizzy.

I went with U2, as I know more of their stuff.
