  6. QUOTE (Distant Early Limelight @ Apr 13 2008, 10:55 AM) One of my all time favourite bands Love their later stuff more-so than the early releases, but it's all good! And even coming from a long-time fan; I think Annette's vocals are far more suited to NW than Tarja's. Yes, her operatic style fitted the early more power metal-esque tracks, but the more bombastic, orchestral recordings of late have Annette written all over them I agree. I never saw Tarja live, but the gig we went to last weekend blew me away. I was amazed at how tight the band are when playing. I am also amazed that the band, now been in existence for over a decade, hasn't hit it off more and become one of the World's best bands. I want to see them again already, and I'm suffering from withdrawal symptoms.
  7. QUOTE (kazzman @ Apr 12 2008, 11:29 PM) QUOTE (ifloveremains @ Apr 4 2008, 06:09 PM) Oooh, I love Nightwish. Annette's pretty impressive, and so is the new album. I like the old stuff with Tarja but it's nice to see that the new vocalist isn't trying to emulate her voice too much, because it just wouldn't be the same. How was Annette with the old material? Really friggin good. When I saw them last year, right after "Sleeping Sun" she had most of of the crowd saying "Tarja who?" The thing that I like about Annette is that she has a voice that you can really write around. With Tarja, it was more straightforward and at times, it seemed to be limiting as to what the band could and couldn't do with the music so her voice could compliment it. OH and I had the opportunity to interview Tuomas Holopainen back in October. You can read that here. And it's a little late, but here's my review of Dark Passion Play: Link BTW, those of you who are seeing Nightwish on this tour; you're gonna love it! The Poet and the Pendulum completely rules live. Been there, done that Where ya been Kazz, I've been holding this thread almost single-handed Edit:Typo

  9. Better give a few clues... You have, between you all, Nos. 2, 5, 6, 8 and 12 correct. There is only one other song from the same album as another, and one of the songs you have correct is from that album. Every other song is from a different album. Two of the ones you need to get are Opening Tracks on studio albums. Four of the ones you still have to get are on official Live albums.
  10. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/image/0804/horseregion_ssro_big.jpg My favourite nebula, the Horsehead in Orion. Explanation: The famous Horsehead Nebula in Orion is not alone. A deep exposure shows that the dark familiar shaped indentation, visible just below center, is part of a vast complex of absorbing dust and glowing gas. To bring out details of the Horsehead's pasture, amateur astronomers at the Star Shadow Remote Observatory in New Mexico, USA fixed a small telescope on the region for over seven hours filtering out all but a very specific color of red light emitted by hydrogen. They then added the image to a full color frame taken over three hours. The resulting spectacular picture details an intricate tapestry of gaseous wisps and dust-laden filaments that were created and sculpted over eons by stellar winds and ancient supernovas. The Horsehead Nebula lies 1,500 light years distant towards the constellation of Orion. Two stars from the Orion's Belt can be found in the above image.

  12. We just watched the Italian Job 2003 remake again. I was listening to the cover of 'Money' and was thinking how good a cover it was, wondered who was performing it, so I stopped the credits to see, and realised it was produced by Nick Raskulinecz. cool

  15. QUOTE One boy had high-functioning aspergers syndrome, and was capable of telling you everything you ever wanted to know about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures in detail This must be my cousin's son. When I met him, he'd been brought home from his dad's. He knew I was in the house, so he walked in through the door, and ran like grease-lightning to his room. It took him about 30 mins to come out, and when he did, he subjected me to the ins and outs of a space game he was playing on his computer It was very interesting, mainly because I like that sort of thing. I can identify with this somewhat, since I am very similar myself, in that I can rabble on and on about loads of technical things and bore the socks off people. ... ... like I am now I wonder whether some of this came from his grandfather (my uncle) as we are very alike.
