Second Hand Grace Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 Neil was the Third Hand Grace on "Earthshine". The Rush community does not seem to ask many questions about T4E and VT, it might broach discussions about the Bible. How fun . .
grep Posted August 11, 2024 Posted August 11, 2024 (edited) If P/G 40 doesn't have live material, I'm pretty sure a lot of copies will be on the second hand market. Any one of those would be second hand grace.... Edited August 11, 2024 by grep 2 4
Entre_Perpetuo Posted August 12, 2024 Posted August 12, 2024 What is second hand grace? Or third hand grace for that matter? 3

Sokkamom Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 It’s Alex’s second hand, and it’s always got a cigarette in it 2
Fridge Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 You're reading waaayyyy too much into this.....all Neil is refering to is the light that has been reflected three times.....sun to earth, earth to moon and moon back to earth again....the fact he uses a quasi-religious term to express it is purely poetic licence. 5

This exactly.

Nice deflection, however, Neil would not be the Third Hand Grace, the Moon would be. Try again . .

I already explained exactly how Neil would position himself as the “third hand grace” based on exactly the line of logic that Fridge used. And when I did you just said I wasn’t worth talking to. Step off your soapbox and analyze the lyrics for what they are.
tangy Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 If liquor is moonshine I figured weed was earthshine..... 2

Shit, Neil doesn't even claim to be third-hand grace in the song, so the premise of the OP is already in the ditch. He says "my third-hand grace", so it's something he has, not something he is. 1

I do think there’s a subtle path where you could say Neil both is the third hand Grace and has it, but the has is far clearer by the wording, I agree.

Typical of Rush Fans when something beyond their apprehension encroaches.

Gee, you try to have a conversation with somebody.

Yeah you’re right. “Third hand grace” might also refer to benefiting from what others see as a religious experience. NP derives the same “grace” but the means in which he experiences it is not relevant. EG: Your moment of religious wonderment is fulfilling me too, but its origins are not heavenly (to me). 2
