  1. 1. Is The Police overrated or underrated?

    • Overrated
    • Underrated
    • Can't stand them so don't even ask.
    • Don't mind them, but Sting and his faux Jamaican accent I can't stand (this is for you Mick).

Other.

The Police had Copeland. The Police took the trend of mixing the Rude Boys with the Punks and did some great work.

Sting is in fact a very good song writer, later pretensions notwithstanding.

Summers added the right guitar moments at the right times.

I love the Police. They were never the Be All and End All, so in that they are overrated.

But they also aren't the copy machine or pretenders later critics assert. And their musical chops were always rate just about right.

I find Sting way less annoying than Geddy.

they're both in the same boat for me. at least Ged in the 70's is. i can't even enjoy 70's Rush because of it anymore.

i know that's a cliche criticize of rush........but for once it's true.

Why is it that you can't listen to 70's Rush anymore?

I hate to say this, but I know what you mean. I didn't listen to Rush for months. When I recently listened to Hemispheres, his voice bothered me too.

Maybe it's a voice that you get used to the more you listen?

The thing about 70's Rush. Is thank god they played their instruments so well.

It kinda distracts from the voice.

can you imagine that voice with just average playing.

i'd have no interest in that, lol

No, I can't. I was going to add to my post thank goodness that the music was/is good enough to get past his voice.

At least Geddy has a very good sense of pitch, so his vocals, although screechy, are at least in tune.

Robert Plant in the 70s...not so much. ;)

Sting aged better than him though.

Robert didn't fare well at all. Scary as all hell. They said it was Jimmy that was the Aleister Crowley wanna-be, but Robert looks like something from up out of the swamp.

At least Ol' Robert kept moving forward musically. Page...???

And at least Robert didn't bother with a face tuck, cheek lift, eye wrap, etc!

As I get older, it's nice to see old rockers etc who don't give a frig what they look like (ie: no wigs Gene Simmons!) as they age,

as well as doing what they want to do.

Robert could look scarier...behold!
