  1. That crowd makes the entire show. Truly rush took a bit of a back seat. it's just fun to watch. Mick

  2. Although I like Cabin In The Woods, I'd have to agree with the Back To The Future Trilogy.

  3. Yes they should be performing live. If you disagree, then do not buy tickets. Do not buy the live album/DVD. Play your favourite records. And shut up. I hate this stupid thread. I would murder my mum for a chance to see them live! (Ok...maybe not...). For all of you who saw them first time round when they were young GOOD FOR YOU. As for young fans like myself, we make do with what we have AND APPRECIATE IT REGARDLESS OF THEIR AGE. Why are Rush fans so friggin' critical of the live performances of men nearing their sixties in the fourth decade of their career? DUMB STUPID THREAD.

  7. This show is special to me because it is really what brought my then 13 year old son (now 24) and I together on Rush. He was a budding musician at the time and I being a longtime fan bought then DVD and we watched it many times over together. He would grab his acoustic and play the cords by ear to many of the songs and be so proud to play them for me. My strongest recollection was how much he loved/loves Natural Science. One of my all time favorites of course. When he was 17 and I took him to the Snakes & Arrows show in Charlotte NC the his excitement was something I will never forget..... :)

  9. I think it kicks a**! :haz: The fans are fantastic and I love the atmosphere. I am surprised it turned out as well as it did considering the conditions and where it was played/filmed. :rush:

  11. I didn't like it the first time I heard it, then I opened the book and read about it, listened to it the next day, cranked the stereo and was blown away by the energy. One of the best live albums ever released.

  13. I love the raw sound and feel of it. Rush has a tendency to sound a bit too perfect a lot of the time, and it's a criticism you'll hear from people who don't like them.

  20. This might also be because I am young, having been born around the time they were touring for Counterparts, but I think they should continue performing live. Geddy's voice has suffered since the Vapor Trails tour, there's no doubt about that, but he's still able to hit the high notes when they really count - Freewill in particular, it amazes me that he's about to do that at such an age. They're also pretty good at picking out songs that won't kill him live. Sure, we're not ever gonna get to hear AFTK, Cygnus X-1 in its entirety, or 85% pre-Permanent Waves stuff again, but their performing is still in my opinion some of the best I have ever seen. And even if it's not a collection of the good old days music from the '70's that everyone's pining for, it's still ~3 hours of Rush. That, in my opinion, is well worth going to see. (Please play Xanadu next tour, he can sing that one even if he lowers some vocal notes like he ALREADY HAS BEEN ON TEMPLES OF SYRINX SINCE AT LEAST GRACE UNDER PRESSURE TOUR, seriously it makes me mad when people make a big deal of that. Like, he's been doing that since the early 80's.)

  23. May I ask why you don't care for live shows anymore? I am surprised that someone as young as you are would feel this way. Well I have Cerebral palsy.....not that that makes it hard to get a seat or anything. It's the people. Constantly find myself battling to see over people. Not that i blame them they're there for good time. but i can't tell how many times i've muttered the phrase please sit down Even in the handicapped section. I've seen rush 2 times and DVD'S are just fine, lol Again i'm not complaining, i've just retired from live concerts.......unless somebody really special pulls me out. Mick

  24. As long as they limit 70's material to just instrumentals, they can pretty much handle their catalog. I prefer latter day material than their earliest work. Ged was laying it down on CA songs. Instrument wise—no problemo! So yes, they should still get out there and kick ass.

  25. See, this is what I mean - stuff like this - I am sure this isn't an isolated case. Each one of them has a "Solaris" in their life. I don't blame them for putting up, as Geddy once said in an interview in the early nineties, the highest wall they could when it came to their personal life. It is a fine line they walk. I don't get what it is that attracts people to fame. Is it the attention? Is it the money? What makes some people click, why do some people crave contact merely for a person's fame or notoriety? It's possible for any of us to draw psychotic people into our lives, I've had a couple myself personally. But what is it that these people are thinking? Sorry, my inner Freud just got going there... Dr. gangsterfurious? That was the idea but life got in the way. :(

  27. It's one of the better songs from one of their worst albums. I like it, but there are so many other songs I'd want them to include before seeing this one again.

  32. Rant on Zumbi, you're a bootleg junkie, and sound like a real tool. Hear me out. How can you bitch about quality when you'll basically listen and share any performance by Rush recorded with the most primitive equipment out there? Get over it dude. It's a magical event Rant off

  33. Eh. That speaking part is precisely why I wouldn't want to hear it live. Love the song, just doesn't translate well live IMO. Really fun to play on guitar though :haz:

  34. My husband has been learning to play "Resist" and he plays along with the Rush in Rio version. I love it more than I do the original. I don't think the audio is that bad but that's just me I guess.

  35. Well, I have a special place in my heart for Rush in Rio. I'm willing to live with its technical shortcomings. My son became a Rush fan before me. He kept pestering me to watch Rush in Rio. To shut him up, I relented. This DVD was what woke me up and won me over to :rush:

  36. Although I like Cabin In The Woods, I'd have to agree with the Back To The Future Trilogy. What..! Did I get it the wrong way round..? :P It's probably generational, but the Back to the Future trilogy is as perfect a movie experience as I have experienced. Especially the first one. I absolutely adore that movie. Nothing but good feelings and memories.

Now I'm tired.

Not as graphic, but still very disturbing in places. What really sets the film apart is great cinematography and editing. Plus, it's got music by Ennio Morricone.

  44. 13 June 2014 Friday Peacock Mantis Shrimp A relative of shrimp and lobsters, the Peacock Mantis Shrimp is one of the more interesting species in the animal kingdom. It is multicolored with shades of bright green, orange, red, and blue on its shell, and its forearms are covered in spots. This ferocious crustacean has club-like appendages that fold under its body, similar to a praying mantis. The legs act like a spring to attack its prey. What is amazing about this creature is that its clubs strike at 50 miles per hour in milliseconds. One strike is 50 times faster than the blink of a human eye. It can punch 50,000 times between molts without damaging its clubs. The punch of a mantis shrimp is so strong that it can break through the shells of its prey and even thick glass. Such power is created by a special, saddlelike hinge-joint in these legs, which acts like a spring. Its large, mobile, compound eyes have sophisticated stereoscopic and color vision. It is able to see ten times more color than human beings, including ultraviolet light. The shrimp use this exceptional eyesight to detect both predators and prey. The Peacock Mantis Shrimp lives in the crevices of coral or rocks on sandy or shelly ocean bottoms. They are very protective of their territory and exhibit aggressive behavior towards intruders. http://i.imgur.com/ZW683wz.jpg http://i.imgur.com/qKbV3sK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/tKHl2DR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/REP9lF1.jpg http://i.imgur.com/N8XvN9T.jpg http://i.imgur.com/R2hHk6E.jpg http://youtu.be/DtNAqK_V-lg
