  1. So, in 2008 I decided to join TRF and found myself in the chat nearly every night. In said chat, I befriended Katie (Kid_Gloves aka Mrs. Tarkus406) and a few others (Phil, Tarkus, Christine, Limey, Goob (and his radio show!), etc.). Anyway, she became one of my best friends. We exchanged phone numbers, added each other on Facebook, and have remained just as close as we were in 2008. For those of you reading, it is 2014. That's a lot of friendship. That's a lot longer than most friendships. We always dreamt up situations of visiting each other, but we were never able to make it happen. Katie texted me a few months ago saying her husband was seeing a concert close to my apartment in Chicago. I offered up my two couches for them to crash on and excitedly counted down the days until we could meet. Welp, today was finally the day. I was afraid this would end up like an episode of Catfish (Google it!) but it did not! We've had a great time, and I'm making plans to visit their neck of the woods in June. http://i.imgur.com/OApBdEc.png (That's me on the left and Katie/Kid_Gloves/Mrs. Tarkus406 on the right!)

  3. I can't recall the punishment for blasphemy around here.... :sarcastic: :) It depends on what's said, which varies according to what can seem random: :Neil: OKAY: Drug addict, grumpy old man, hates fans. NOT OKAY: "I think he missed a cymbal or something." :Alex: OKAY: Party animal, nutcase, might need a tranquilizer dart. NOT OKAY: "Wasn't that riff in a Journey song?" :geddy: OKAY: Worst singer ever, ugly, various anti-semitic stuff. NOT OKAY: "I thought that was a girl singing at first."

  4. The upcoming Modern Drummer has compiled a list of the best drummers of all time. Neil was rated number 3 behind Buddy Rich and John Bonham. I realize these lists can get tired and are subjective, however Neil ought to be number 1, and here's why: -Longevity. 40 years, despite some horrenous setbacks -Inspiration. To legions of drummers. Some even play because of him -Versatility. He's not the fastest, the best swingin', or the most subtle, but he can do every style with at least decent results -Evolution. After all, he doesn't have to try so hard anymore. Yet he still does, and is always pushing to improve As far as raw ability, I can't see how anyone can argue against Buddy. Bonham is the most commercially successful. But it's Neil who does it all.

  5. Long time no see!! I hope they go quietly and just accept what's about to happen. Although with Al dressing all priest-like conservative these days... that boy might put quite the fight! He'd probably scream, "Does not want!" the whole time. I'm going to see some skin. One way or the other! This reminds me a litttle of...

  6. Just a word of warning... if ILSnwdog asks to meet up... don't do it. I mean, he invited me over before a concert, made me steak and potatoes... drove me to the concert. I feel so violated

  10. I've made some great friends that I met from this website. LIX and I have become friends, and we have gotten together with our families. Great times. Workingcinderellaman and myself started PM on this website. Then we started emailing...then calling. Then he invited me out to Salt Lake to try a little skiing. Then I invited him out to see a White Sox game. Then the family and I went out to Salt Lake. Fast forward a few years, and WCM and I have become such good friends, my wife and I asked WCM to be our youngest daughter's godfather. I also had the good luck to meet up with TX_Rush when he was up visiting family. I hope to see him next time he is up in Chicago. There are a lot of quality people who hang out here.

  11. OP. How old are you? As people get older, time is perceived to speed up. What might be a long time to you, might just be a moment to someone older. As an example. When I was a kid, one day (24 hours) took forever. Now that I am pushing 60, one week is gone before I even know it. Then years start to speed by. The clock continues to spin faster until you spin no more.

  12. How is this even a serious discussion? Like I said earlier in the thread, they've been around forever..., are there really fans upset by an extended break? Among their peers from that era, Rush is more productive than most.. Hell, they've been more active in the last 15 years than many modern bands.. Tool comes to mind

  13. And that leaves Al all for me. Mmmmhmmm. Thanks for these pics Blue. They are fantastic. I have to give Geddy and Neil credit. They put on such brave faces when out in public with Alex. He's so gorgeous, I imagine they must feel very intimidated to have to stand next to such sexiness. Perhaps this is why Neil is such a sourpuss? ;) Neil isn't a sour puss. He's just misunderstood.

  16. You are actually going to have surgery for sure?... Yes I will leave it there. Not my business... :) The reason it's not a big deal about me to talk about is because I a. am working on entering the medical field, and b. I think there would be less of a stigma about it and a better attitude towards women if it was more out in the open (should the woman chose to discuss it).

  17. Gotta love Athletic Geddy. If anyone has any swimsuit pics, they're certainly welcome. Happy to oblige http://i.imgur.com/MwKAwv2.jpg http://i.imgur.com/cqykulJ.jpg Am I dead? Is this Fangirl Heaven? Wait... what about the other two? My only guess is once they realized they had found a group of Gedicorns and they had no chance, Alex and Neil sulked off back to their rooms, defeated, before the pictures were taken. Are you sure Neil wasn't hiding and Alex wasn't skinny dipping? :laughing guy:

It's what makes TRF the best! :) I know of 3 TRF marriages that resulted from introductions and interactions on this board. Sundog and Digital Man (I think) Huck Finn and Mrs. Huck Finn and of course Kid Gloves and Tarkus406. YBT's longtime significant other is also someone she met on this board. Yep, it happens! And Narpzilla, I do quite a lot of work in Myrtle Beach and Horry County. Thus far I've never had to travel since I've got some co-workers in Charleston and they've taken care of any necessary "face time", but if I ever have to head up that way I will certainly let you know!

  21. if you really need to ask why keith moon or bonham are at the top of every rock drummer list, you need to realize that technicality is not what makes something good. plus, ask neil how he feels about keith moon, john bonham, ginger baker, etc. would zep or the who sound nearly as good with drummers who were strictly technical? sometimes rock needs to sound loose and free

  33. I have a natural 36-D chest and I am quite content with that. Geddy seemed to like them when I met him on the TMT. I ALMOST joked and said "Mr. Lee, my eyes are up here." Hey, whatever works, baby!! I got a full-on hug from my imaginary boyfriend. I'm certainly not complaining. :D

  35. 17 shirts? Later in sixth grade (see story above) I bought an AC/DC tank top. I recall wearing it with my KISS belt buckle (I didn't know any better, both musically and sartorially). Thank the gods no incriminating photos exist of that wardrobe malfunction.

  39. I love all the Bon-era albums, but I have to give the nod to Highway to Hell only because it was my first. I still remember the first time I heard the title track: I was at the bus stop (age 11, somewhere near the end of '79) waiting to go to school, and a "bad kid" from my class lured me into his house nearby. Curiosity got the better of me, and I stepped inside. Three or four of my fellow sixth-graders were skipping school that day, and they were all smokin' weed, flippin' through stacks of Playboys, and crankin' Highway to Hell. I hadn't yet been corrupted, so I hightailed it out after a few minutes!

  41. The cream of AC/DC without question: 1. Powerage 2. Let There Be Rock 3. Highway to Hell Without question? He said it I didn't but I concur however... :) There's a little history there with regard to suggesting that people can't have different views about what the best AC/DC album is. Like with VH or Sabbath, the different eras of AC/DC to me are in many ways completely different bands. But I would pick either High Voltage or Highway to Hell as my favorite Bon era albums, although they all have their merits.

I thought it was great then and of course telling others (then) fell on deaf ears. It is even better to me now than I even remembered it being then.. :) For sure. Those Bon years just get better with age. I'm glad they get respect here, they deserve it.
