Loved it. Paul Thomas Anderson is my favorite director right now.

Never heard of it. Should check that director out.

But I'm torn by the cast.

Like: Phoenix, Brolin, Del Toro

Dislike: Wilson, Short

Don't bother it's crap! I tried really hard to watch it but I could only stand an hour of it and I should have switched it off after 15 minutes.

Well, I looked up the director and found he did two movies I really liked: Magnolia (Cruise's best IMHO) & There Will Be Blood (DDL being awesome again). AND he did Boogie Nights which turned out better than I thought it'd be.

With the cast of this movie here, I strongly dislike Owen Wilson and can't find the positives that many others see in him. Martin Short I just always found annoying and unfunny.

I forgot that Wilson was in it. I forget most of his roles.

Starsky & Hutch and Zoolander: Two movies that many people love but I can't stand. Couldn't get a single laugh out of either. I don't know. Just that brand of humor does nothing for me. Will Ferrell would be the pinnacle of that genre of comedy that I despise. The only way I see anything with that group of guys anymore is if I didn't know they're in it. Ben Stiller I kind of let slide because I DID like Reality Bites and There's Something About Mary was passable...but I still tread cautiously.

I've not seen either film. I knew Starsky and Hutch would be crap, I'll stick with the original TV series, and well I just didn't see anything interesting about Zoolander. And Ben Stiller is another of those redundant unfunny comedy guys so no incentive to watch with him being in both of those.

Both times I was beering when suddenly one of the dudes in the group I was with suggested one of those movies. I could've left both times but then the free beering would've stopped. I chose gluttony and non-laughter instead of wisely leaving to go home early.

Yeah sometimes you see films in situations like that. The beer can help make them seem better! :hail:

It didn't!!!! And I even had a little extra smokity smoke help for Starsky & Hutch and that didn't help either!

Frosting and sprinkles can't help shit taste like cake.

It looks like from clips I've seen that they did the exact same job with Starsky & Hutch as they did with the Dukes of Hazard (another one I haven't seen). If you want to make a shit remake of a TV show hire Stiller and Wilson and it's a certainty.

Saving Mr. Banks.

Not sure how historically accurate this film is but I basically don't care. Emma Thompson did an excellent job as the stubborn, cranky writer with a depressing past. Tom Hanks didn't exactly convince me that he was Walt Disney but just like Denzel, Morgan Freeman, Daniel Day Lewis, and Philip Seymour Hoffman, he's always decent to great even if the movie isn't. This flick took a while to get moving but the last 30 minutes or so bumped it up a notch. Capable support from Paul Giamatti and Colin Farrell.

Grade: B

What do you think is the best vampire movie of all time?

Hmmm possibly the 1958 Hammer Dracula, the first one before all the sequels, like the two i watched last night. Also Salem's Lot which is totally cool.

Best vampire movie? Shadow of the Vampire.

Or Blacula.

:gasp: For my first choice, anyway. That really is a great vampire movie. Malkovich & DeFoe are perfect. Other great vampire movies are the original Nosferatu and the original Legosi film. What's that quirky vampire film done in NY framed around putting on an off-Broadway play? I enjoyed that.

See that's what I meant you don't like vampire films you like dramas/mysteries with a vampire twist thrown in.

Nadja, I Am Legend (original) and Lost Boys are three other good ones.

I like intetesting takes on the vampire legend.

Near Dark and Innocent Blood are good. The former is a hybrid of horror and western and the latter mixes vampire horror with the mafia genre.

Is that the one with Robert Loggia who turns into a Mafia boss vampire? Yeah that's funny!

Quick note: For decades I used to pronounce Loggia "Log-ee-ah" I didn't realise till recently it's supposed to be "Lo-Ja".

I Am Sam.

Hate to see Penn & Pfeiffer, two actors I like, in a bad film. But this was one of those films. At times Penn seemed to be channeling a drunk Rain Man. The credible Laura Dern was in the last chapter of this flick but that didn't help either. Tiny Dakota Fanning's cuteness and beyond-her-years acting also couldn't help. Slow moving, forced sentimentality, weak attempts at humor, and cheap covers of Beatles' tunes drowned this movie.

Grade: BIG FAT "F"

So come on duck, what'd you think?

I liked the Avengers. I think the Vision was done very well, the twins were pretty good too. Ultron was maybe a bit too frivolous but that's the tone they want, it's the same with Stark and he was Stark's baby in this not Hank Pym's. The Hulk and the Black Widow romance is very weird, I mean really weird. Hawkeye's farm is a bit daft. I still don't like the way they've done Thanos but he may grow on me yet. Overall it was pretty cool. The Hulk vs Iron man fight was a highlight and the best line of the film came from Ultron: "when the dust settles the only thing living will be METAL!" :haz: :smoke:

Jurassic World had better dinos but the cast was weak compared to Jurassic Park, it was like the cast of the 3rd sequel.

I'm looking forward to Captain America Civil War too now, it's gonna be much more than Cap 3 it's really Avengers 3. The only ones missing I think will be Thor, Hulk and I think Quicksilver is dead isn't he?

There's talk that Ruffalo was seen on the set so the Hulk may be in there after all. Thor's in Asgard for Thor 3 so he won't be back until Avengers: Infinity War.

Yeah, Cap 3 is looking like Avengers part 2.5 and so be it! Cap 2 was great, Cap 1 was ok, Avengers 2 was entertaining despite it's flaws, and Avengers 1 was great so I'm confident Cap 3 will at least be good.

Agree with most of that. Spader was great as Ultron. Stark replacing Pym was passable though I still have issues with it. The Bruce/Natasha romance seemed unnecessary and family guy Hawkeye looked more like they didn't know how to write Clint. Vision had some great scenes but I would've liked the whole hollow, scary voice that he's supposed to have instead of the more gentle computer voice that it seemed to be. Still entertaining overall though.

My only thing is if the Vision is powered by the infinity gem what happens when it's gone? Does he die? Does he fade away? Does he become an ordinary robot?

And yeah Hawkeye is not a family man, that's bullshit. It should be him that's having the affair with Natasha and Bruce who has the secret family, that makes more sense. Or if not and they insist on a secret family then it should be that woman the Shield agent who can never remember the name of, or even Fury. I don't like the secret family thing, it seems like a set-up to make Hawkeye go rogue when someone kills them all in a later film, that's my prediction.

Yup, should've been Widow/Hawkeye IF at all. Hawkeye bangs people. Tons of people. He's immature. He's no family man. But I guess they're totally changing him.

Shield agent? Agent Hill, the hot slender brunette, you mean?

Vision and his Infinity Gem...well, since this is now Marvel Cinematic Uni and not Marvel Comics it's uncharted waters. But it'd follow that if the gem is gone then he wouldn't even be an ordinary robot. He would just completely cease to exist.
