Quick story:

 

Back when I was happily married and our daughters were little girls, we would always head down to Newport Beach in January for Disneyland and the beach.

Well the one year we were down there I found out that Universal Studios was doing a "My Name Is Earl" promotion for the park during season one.

If your name was Earl, all you had to do was show them your driver's license and you get into the park for free!

So we decided to go to Universal Studios for the day! I got it free! I got a tee shirt and a "My Name Is Earl" cap. When they gave me my swag at the end of the day, Square Bob Sponge Pants ran over to me and kneeled and bowed to me. It was classic.

 

Great show!

 

My Karma Clearing in real life has been already activated.

Pink Floyd is the band that Tool could have been if they were more melodically interesting.

 

Fixed.

 

Their last balanced album was Aenima. Lateralus is when this stuff started. I was hoping for a more streamlined album this time, but no.

 

I couldn't even make it through the title track. What they tried to build up to did nothing for me.

 

I think they have 8-11 songs in their entire catalog I like.

 

I'l grant you that PF had the melodies. And the guitar.

 

But they have the world's most boring bass and drums. If they tried to play Tool, their vaginas would crack.

I actually saw TOOL on the side stage at the first Lollapalooza.

They were fuckinggg great but really?

I've seen TOOL open for King Crimson in Berkeley.

It was a hot fuckking mess. No beer, no water and no AC.

I've seen TOOL in Oakland on the Arena stage.

So fuckking boring.

Danny Carey's drum kit looked like a Neil Peart vintage Tama with gong on that last tour I saw.

I was blown away yet bored.

I took my ex wife.

No wonder I am divorced and single.

Too many prog shit shows.

Floyd and Tool are fairly far apart on most material. Pure chops, Tool wins easily. But Floyd, as you say, has some tasty sections that often get overlooked by Gilmour's guitar work.

Most of the chops thing is Danny Carey. IMO Mason served the music better and was not a slouch on the drums. I would argue Floyd as a whole band had better chops.

 

Plus, the sound of Chancellor's bass has a LOT to do with their success.
