Rod in Toronto Posted August 16, 2016 Share Posted August 16, 2016 Saw two great beach volleyball matches last night. The arena is amazing, and what´s even better, at walking distance from my house! In other news, Brazilian Thiago Braz won the gold medal in pole vault, amidst protests from also-ran Renaud Lavillenie who said the crowd booed him like the Germans did with Jesse Owens in 1936...in true Brazilian fashion, people are flooding Renaud´s Facebook and Twitter with memes about last night´s defeat. One thing you should know about Brazilian culture is we´re not respectful AT ALL when it comes to cheering in sports. Being 6ft 5, I've never seen another sprinter that tall he's able run in far shorter strides which gives him a huge advantage. It either that or those yellow yams from the hills of the parrish of St Ann's Jamaica. I didn´t watch it because it was too late. Brazilians are crushed with this defeat! Our women´s volleyball team are local favourites, especially due to the rivalry between their amicable coach and the men´s team coach, who´s just as competent but a bit of an a$$hole.
