Question for 73 about Quote Nesting

@Dr Cooper. Do you think this will be an issue with grabbing the attention of the one you want to grab by quoting them? Heck even when I quote some around here they still ignore me... :|

I don't know about everyone else, but I have the notifications tab at the top right +1 when someone quotes a post of mine. When somebody just uses @BowlCity for example, I have no clue unless I'm combing through each thread.

That's not the only time you have no clue.

When somebody just uses @BowlCity for example, I have no clue unless I'm combing through each thread. When someone quotes me, then I get the notification and can go directly to their post. In addition to breaking conversation continuity (really this is only an issue in SOCN for the most part), it can eliminate conversations entirely if one isn't constantly combing the threads they post in.

Unfortunately, having the quotes send me a notification becomes a bit of a problem with RNB and LABT are busy fighting like an old married couple in the Cubs thread off of one post I made

only a desperate dumbass would waste their time quoting you

ayyyyyy

This post has 5 nested quotes.

And look how sleek it is!

Another place where high nesting numbers is deleterious is the Post Pictures Of You thread. Someone can post a picture, and if people keep replying to one particular thread, you can get a whole page or two absolutely flooded with that one picture, and it makes that thread almost un-viewable at times.

Most times I either avoid quoting by just responding or editing out all the crap I'm not really replying to. A bit of self discipline could go a long way.

If people would do it here, they can always cut the comments down when they reply.

If there's already a long quote train, trying to trim off some of the quotes can be frustrating for anyone but the most patient of users. Once you mismatch the opening quote tags and the end ones you're screwed.

Right now the limit is set to 20 quotes. That's the default setting. Let's let this thread go for a little longer and see if anyone can come up with a good reason to keep it at 20. If not, maybe we can try 10. The one place where more than one quote reply is useful is in SOCN, so I wouldn't want to jump from 20 quotes to one.

On my site I want to say we have it at one, but I cannot recall right now. It got so messy at 20 one of the admins had a drunken fit one night and changed a bunch of settings.

Also gave everyone new avatars and that's why he's hiding in exile on the Rush Forum currently :)

Not necessarily. Then you close the window and try again. :D

That would drive me nuts!

It's not hard once you get the hang of it.

It's hardly challenging material,

This board is about Rush, how evil Boston teams are, and the dummies in SOCN.

None of it is challenging.

I remember when it was simply about Rush...

You can blow me with the nesting thing. It usually takes place in combative moronic discourse of no consequence. How about people refrain from getting irritated by what others write on the Internet in the first place? See the above comment concerning SOCN. :)

I have done my fair share of quote weeding as a matter of practice. And yes, refreshing the window after making the wrong move is handy. Splitting quotes out into individuals is the true PITA.

Hey now! I seen you being combative and moronic in SOCN from time to time.

How do you think I know? :P

Some in there are so eagerly irritated and wantonly crave being outraged. I bring gas and a match, light it and walk away, especially when I get posts reported because some people think that a simple disagreement constitutes a personal attack or see the continuous stream of truly ridiculous thread titles.

Honestly I was against the creation of the political section because of earlier history out of which the origins of TRF first began (a tale of woe too many times gone over, though over a decade ago now). I used to get in drawn out discussions concerning the casual nature of some evangelizing coming across not only as self righteous indignation but also as "what a good boy am I" syndrome. Beside that it had little to nothing to do with Rush and only created ill will among members. When the political forum was put into affect I suggested it be a free for all, no holds barred sh!t fest and (as I often say) "let them eat themselves..."

So I just like to stir and let simmer, especially when some imagined slight is reported for moderation.

:beathorse: :bacon:
