Segue Myles
Still i understand what they were trying to do. and if it does go to the broadway stage..........petrucci could legit work on the 2nd half more. Caus this IS stage bound. 99.9 percent sure. Mick Problem is, it might work on stage, but that does not work as a studio album. It could have ended with a reprise of the opening overture. Something as simple as that could have really improved the experience on album. That anticlimactic ending really dampens any desire I might have to play the second disc. In fact, I might just add the overture as a reprise just to see if it works! Segue do what i do........stop at our New World/Power Down. that's the true ending. then Add the Overture as your Curtain Call. do it in a playlist........it works. Mick Ooh ok! And another really odd thing I keep noticing: nearly every song on the first disc sounds like an album closer haha! It's sorta funny to my ears right now... Segue Myles
The shrill vocals on Brother Can You Hear Me...I wanna give him a lozenge. Not a fan...thank goodness he rarely hits that level. I find his higher register very pitchy. Otherwise...first disc is a lot better to my ears than yesterday!

The Analog Cub
Now here is a thought: I think The Astonishing has a terrific first disc. Absolutely beautiful, in fact! A lot of work went into it, and it sounds "visual", and it really improves with every listen. Dynamic, heartfelt and beautifully arranged. I think they should have released it as a standalone. And I think part two SHOULD have been delayed and worked on even more. The second disc is really weak in comparison, it is 2112 and the A/B side quality dip all over again! It sounds to me a little like they hadn't quite fully fleshed out the concept musically. The second side is far too ballad heavy. i give disc 2 8/10 I said the 2 should have been released seperatly. it's not like bands haven't done 2 part albums seperatly before. might have been better recieved at large that way. ,ick Or you know...release part 1 as a song then part 2 as a masterpiece 7 years later. Something like that ;)

Mick People who say they are too old honestly need to shake themselves up. My dad is 76, and he is reading YA fiction, classic fantasy, Victorian detective novels, loves to follow Pixar, champions bands like Within Temptation and Nightwish, and enjoys trying new foods all the time. He doesn't like everything but he is defined by who he is inside, not who he is on the outside. My mum is disabled and she finally got to grips with the joy of animation, loves modern pop, rock and plenty of my metal, and enjoys comedies like White Chicks or even Friends. Age and disability hasn't left her jaded or stuck in her ways. I always role my eyes at those who settle for the past and whinge about the present. And good on him! Terria is his masterpiece above all else, if you ask me.

Mick I love Epicloud because how many metal maestros get to release an unashamedly pop oriented album to wide applause and no fan backlash? I swear, he did great on that album. He also doesn't have a "sound". He can do anything and it just sounds like Devin. But I am not actually certain I know what Devin sounds like. He just is.
