greyfriar
Just voted for the ATWAS version, just because for the feel of it and for some emotional experiences. The vocal echoes at the end of In The End are not to beat. :smoke: :hail:When I listened to the song today, the same part leaped out at me - the vocal echoes. Also, I love the way Geddy says in a soft low voice "One Two Buckle My Shoe".  All in all, I get the chills when I listen to the ATWAS version of the song.UUUUUUhhhhhhh I can see what you mean... That part always knocks me off. I once had a cassette where I had my favourite Rush song parts in a row and that part was at least 5 times on there.

It helped carry me through my awkward, lonely teenage years....Same here. The song helped me a lot to believe in love, back then in my teenage rampage years. ;) :codger: Edited January 6, 2015 by greyfriar

I have no memories connected to it at all, and it affects me emotionally just the same. There's something very hopeful about the song. It must be in the music itself. Alex and Geddy at their best here. :hi: :codger: Edited January 6, 2015 by Lorraine

brokenstoned
I have been listening to this song for 34 years, and yesterday I heard something I've never noticed before. During the last part of Alex's solo, Geddy, or somebody else, is singing along to the guitar notes. I have recently purchased the Sectors Series 1,2 & 3 in 96kHz/24 bit HD Audio and am listening to the entire catalog 1 abum at a time chronologically. It's amazing how much more detail I am hearing! I can't wait to get to PWs.
EagleMoon
I'm not sure I understand why this song is singled out? I must've missed something. I like all versions of it. Especially the one on Fifth Order of Angels.I am sorry, Eagle. I missed this earlier that you mentioned the bootleg. I read the post, but for whatever reason, the last sentence didn't compute. Oh okay! I wondered what in the world you were asking me, and then I thought maybe you were wanting the date or something. :)
Geddy's Soul Patch
The ATWAS version is one of the greatest recordings of all time!!! :smoke: One two buckle ma shoe!!!
goose
Many great memories singing along to this tune with friends. That was over 30 years ago and we're still buddies, though we live hundreds of miles apart. RUSH concerts are what usually brings us back together...in the end.

But at any rate- yes, that is The Fifth Order of Angels. Narpet, I'm pretty sure that was in the package of shows that I sent to you awhile ago, but I could be mistaken. For the record- the version on All the World's a Stage I used to not like as much as the studio (I love the acoustic 12-string at the beginning), but I have to say that the official live version is at the top of the heap. greg2112
One of the best, and ATWAS has the edge here. The song needs to get back in the setlist as part of an encore medley.

Lorraine
It is most unfortunate that I only have one bootleg that has In The End on it - Capital Punishment 4/17/77 Lisner Auditorium - Washington, D.C. Zumbi, if and when you listen to the bootlegs from this time period, would you be kind enough to let me know what the best sounding bootleg(s) is(are)? I know Eagle already mentioned the Fifth Order of Angels. Edited January 6, 2015 by Lorraine

The date is August 26, 1974.  I can't tell you how many times I looked at my list and didn't see it. Maybe I ought to pack it in altogether. toymaker
I don't think anyone's mentioned this yet, but on the Fly by Night version of this tune, they do something I don't think they ever did again, which was to start the song in C - with I think a very down-tuned bass (those are some very low frequencies) - and then it sounds as though the tape speeds up (at around 1:40) and the electric comes in with a D chord. Kind of a neat effect.
