Sometimes I wonder how Rush made it this far after I read threads like this and a few others here because I get the impression that they have done little right in forty years. :cheers: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

 

Even 100 bad "moments" in 40 years leaves a hell of a lot of quality moments and a lot of "these guys are GODS" moments. Their fearless "swing for the fence" mentality and risking failure is what made them what they are.

Sometimes I wonder how Rush made it this far after I read threads like this and a few others here because I get the impression that they have done little right in forty years. :cheers: :LOL: :lol: :LOL:

They did mostly everything right in the first ten or 15 years, then other more unfortunate influences (and technology) crept in. But apart from a couple of things that I think were experiments that didn't work, I have massive fondness for quite a few things on here that people don't like - including Chemistry, Kid Gloves, and a bunch of other tunes. It does bum me out a bit when a song that has such great potential is killed when the pop idioms take over.

It does bum me out a bit when a song that has such great potential is killed when the pop idioms take over.

 

I know what you mean, and I have wondered whose idea it was that made Geddy do some things on a song that seemed to be beneath them to do or unnecessary to the song. On the other hand, I have often listened to a song and thought that if they had only extended a certain musical chorus one more time, it would have made the song better.

I know what you mean, and I have wondered whose idea it was that made Geddy do some things on a song that seemed to be beneath them to do or unnecessary to the song. On the other hand, I have often listened to a song and thought that if they had only extended a certain musical chorus one more time, it would have made the song better.

Like maybe The Weapon - another chorus, followed by another solo?

How has NO ONE mentioned the horrible "Kid Gloves"??!?!?!??

 

Look...I have absolutely NOTHING against gay people. Absolutely nothing. But, "Kid Gloves" is the first Rush song that SOUNDED "gay."

 

 

So, if it sounds gay, what exactly does gay sound like? Does it sound like two adult men having consensual sex? Because that's what gay means.

 

The original meaning was just to be "happy".. There's also a third meaning.. As Spaghetti put it.. "Lacking testosterone".

 

Example:

"Justin Beiber is gay" could mean that he has sex with other guys or just that he's happy..

"Justin Beiber sounds gay" could only mean one thing.. ;)

I like Vapor Trails, but holy hell Out Of The Cradle makes me cringe...

 

I've warmed up to The Stars Look Down (another one on this list). It's got a nice bass/guitar groove to it.
