2112 [song] starts off (and ends) with some heavy stuff..........(based on about 10 minutes of 2112) but half the album cannot be considered 'heavy', it equally contains ballads, and non 'heavy' stuff........

CA is easily heavier, though neither is Heavy Metal, rather Progressive Metal. MP is heavier than 2112 too, as probally a few other Rush albums are.

and yes, Geddy Lee DOES say that Rush is Metal.

and no, there is no photoshopping done on the following images, skillfully taken with my cell phone.

I bought a stack of early 80's music magazines (1$ each at a vintage store)

An article in the April, 1980 issue of Circus, which is the first issue in the stack I bought that I was going through had this article: Read it and weep all the Rush metal deniers

First, the cover with the Metal topic setup "Heavy Metal for the 80's"

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o586/animate2112/CIrcus%201980%20Rush/0811122310.jpg

Second, Geddy Lee quote on Metal: (poor focus)

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o586/animate2112/CIrcus%201980%20Rush/0811122312.jpg

Third, list of the heaviest albums- note 2112 at #4

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o586/animate2112/CIrcus%201980%20Rush/0811122313.jpg

Another quote by Geddy, not really about metal but on touring

http://i1149.photobucket.com/albums/o586/animate2112/CIrcus%201980%20Rush/0811122314.jpg

Finally, inside back cover of magazine- full page PerW ad:

YES, Geddy has already use the term "Metal" to describe Rush's music in the past, but in recent interviews, he always mentioned "hard rock". I know that Sam Dunn have also describe Rush's music as part of the sub genre of Progressive Metal, which is not completely out of the track, but to me, has more to do with hard rock, heavy rock, heavy prog or alternative than "Metal".

2112 is leading? Are you serious. No, just no. To me sonic wise, it sounds like an AC/DC record, to be more precise, like Powerage (really thin guitars, bass and drums.)

It's not full like Hemispheres.

Rush isn't metal. That's probably part of why I like them so much.

yes.gif

I can't find any heavy metal's cd in Rush, or any song. Heavy rock, prog, alternative, grunge, progressive, art-rock, but metal no...

RUSH are METAL!

I actually have a "Masters of Metal" LP that has Tom Sawyer on it.

Thanks to Google, here's the lineup...

Masters of Metal - Volume One:

Trashed - Black Sabbath

Mean Streak - Y&T

Breakin' the Chains - Dokken

Who's Behind the Door - Zebra

Rainbow in the Dark - Dio

Screaming in the Night - Krokus

Lick it Up - Kiss

Street of Dreams - Rainbow

Run to the Hills - Iron Maiden

Tom Sawyer - Rush

A World of Fantasy - Triumph

You Can't Stop Rock and Roll - Twisted Sister

Dancing in the Street - Van Halen

How some of these were selected as "metal" is beyond my understanding. laugh.gif

Prove my point... The biggest joke about those who put everything in "Metal", is when Jethro Tull won a grammy Award for the best "Metal bands" in 1989! confused13.gif
