eshine
The Wreckers has one of the best, most memorable choruses Geddy has written in decades. It soars. And there is nothing cheesy or sappy about it in the slightest. It's going to go over like gangbusters live.
eshine
QUOTE (They Bow Defeated @ Jul 16 2012, 01:55 PM) I love The Wreckers, but have to admit I'm not a big fan of the wary/contrary thing. And I think chorus could have been more effective if they reworked it to remove the "All I know is that" parts. Maybe even if Geddy paused here and just didn't sing the "All I know" parts. sometimes you have to be wary Of a miracle too good to be true sometimes the truth is contrary Everything in life you thought you knew sometimes you have to be wary 'Cause sometimes the target is you lol cmon - you honestly think that some really awkward silence would make this great chorus even better? I drink to your opinion, however incorrect As we type this, I doubt it's easy for either of us to get the chorus of The Wreckers out of our heads. Apollo
QUOTE (HowItIs @ Jul 16 2012, 02:39 AM) QUOTE (Bastille Night @ Jul 15 2012, 06:06 PM) I took a two week hiatus on CA, and am just listening to it again tonight. The Wreckers holds up for me, and I think it will hold up for a long time. Sorry that it doesn't work for you dude! More and more I'm feeling sorry for the cynical folk that can't appreciate this material! Call me a sap, but I'm loving this shit!!! Touche'! Well, some people just aren't happy unless they are tearing something down. Just wish them well and move along
losingit2k
QUOTE (Tombstone Mountain @ Jul 19 2012, 10:17 AM) QUOTE (ThinkingBig @ Jul 19 2012, 10:15 AM) QUOTE (NYM86 @ Jun 30 2012, 11:59 PM) It's not bad per se, but I'm certainly not big on it musically or lyrically. But I'm still at a point where I'm not skipping anything (except the utterly pointless BU2B2). BU2B2 is not pointless with respect to the character arc NP is creating. He moves the character from one belief system to a place of dismay and confusion, then finally to forgiveness (Wish Them Well) and introspection and content with both chaos and order (The Garden). I don't know why he never wrote fiction. I don't get it...one of the things I love about the album is the cool small stuff. BU2B2 really adds something to the mix. I agree, This is such a cool little moment and if you listen to it as the intro to Wish Them Well, its simply brilliant. Just think of: The happiest days of our lives/ Another brick on the wall (Part 2) I only wish that the spacing between them were shorter, than it would work even better. Wish thme Well should start like two measure after the final chord in BU2B2. Right now its at 3 measures or so. ReflectedLight
just my opinion but i felt like they should have left this track off the record and play an instrumental instead and name it the wreckers. it just doesn't sound like it has that distinct rush label on it. incredibly mainstreamish with sappiness thrown in. i'd be embarrassed if i heard it on the radio and would quickly change the station. It's my least favorite track on the album, at least BU2B2 keeps the pain short. Exactly...That song sucks! Also why the need to put that lil opener on the front of BU2B????? Snowman
Well its my favourite off the album. It is incredibly melodic and atmospheric and I love the middle part where things brake down. That is a classy Rush theme, if not the rest of the song is. You have to admit that at least! You guys have no clue, I have!

The Lofty Oaks
Once you have read the novel it will be impossible to skip "The Wreckers". It is the climax to the entire story. After experiencing that you will not be able to skip the "climax" of the album as well. The climax is the point who would want to skip that? Pun intended.
