danielmclark
As a comics reader and collector for almost 30 years? I couldn't care less. Gay, straight, whatever - doesn't bother me. The groups that are protesting have too much time on their hands. As long as they're not drawing him with a **** in his mouth - pornography - who cares? Principled Man
The only thing that annoys me about it is how the writer has an agenda. Personal, social, political, whatever you care to call it....he's writing his character and storyline with an agenda. If the story is strong, then fine. But if the story takes a back seat to the agenda, then that's not great.

But if the story takes a back seat to the agenda, then that's not great. All the best writers have an agenda. It's built into the story, and they're adept at making sure the story isn't ham-fisted about it. We'll see how this one goes... but I'm pretty optimistic that it won't be handled badly. I was a Huge collector from a very small child [early 70's] until 1991 , or when they killed superman, 92 ? I loved them because you knew it was Not real , just fun to imagine what it was like to be Batman or whoever . Just leave it alone , not Everything has to be so P.C. and that is what this looks like to me . When was the first Comic ? A Long time ago and Nobody bitched until now, because it's the "Right thing to do" to go with the times. Let me ask you because like i said, i have not collected them in 20 years, do they have a Transgender hero yet ? I ask seriously because if they don't, i am sure they will . Just my 2 cents

Just my 2 cents Is it the hype about it that annoys you or the just that there's a gay character at all? I'm a little annoyed at the hype myself because I think it should just be accepted that some characters are straight and some are gay. I don't think there needs to be fanfare attached to it - or at least, this much fanfare. They have straight storylines, why not some storylines with gay/lesbian characters? I don't think it's DC's sole intention to gain new readers from this, but also to further solidify the existing readers they have by giving them a character - or two, or three, or more - that they can somewhat identify with. It's difficult to stand out in that crowd these days. Plus, I'm sure the writer(s) will love the challenge to do something different. I'm not the biggest comic book collector or reader, but I've read some on and off over the years, and always had huge respect for the franchises, the artists, and writers for them. I personally don't mind if this version of Alan Scott is gay, but if this revamped version doesn't work it out in the long run, at least the writers tried to do something challenging for themselves and for the fans/readers, and personally, that's something I think should be appreciated even if you don't really like the direction it's going in.
