Earthshine
Neil never saw the great Buddy Rich live. Certainly he had many opportunities too, but evidentally was not very familiar with him other than seeing him on The Tonight Show.

Yeah, who does he think he is goin around failing at drumming when there's a legend like Buddy Rich that most folks don't know or remember. The least Peart could do is give him some props' as the titan he was. I mean Peart should be burning for Buddy! QUOTE (D3strukt @ May 27 2012, 01:26 AM) I am now officially able to see this. It's cool that new generations of listeners are getting exposure to the giants of that era. Peart is ridiculously good at using what he's gotten by practice and hard work, but Rich was gifted from the gods. Keep learning, keep growing. It's a fun ride! I actually agree with you Jim. There is no doubt about. My grandparents were lucky enough to see Buddy a few times live. I remember making my grandparents listen to the drum solo by Neil on "Exit Stage Left." They were very impressed but they both told me that no one will ever come close to Buddy Rich. Hell I was only 14 at the time.

I saw buddy do a solo live in 1984 that left me speechless. Simply the fastest and most tactful drummer I've seen to date. Many people have approached me over the years saying "Keith Moon was the fastest drummer in the world" and I had to let them know Buddy made all the other drummers look like they're in slow motion. No joke. That cat was fast!!!
