ILSnwdog
QUOTE (Presto-digitation @ Apr 9 2012, 09:12 AM) 7-ish. Some really good strong tunes and some not so. More good than not and the good stuff is great. Also contains the single worst Rush track ever and a couple other vanilla cuts. Tai Shan isn't on T4E. ILSnwdog
We discussed T4E recently, and this is what I posted then: I think TFE has some of the best songs in the entire catalog, and some of the worst. TFE, Driven, and Time & Motion are three of the most ass kicking songs that hold up against anything in my book. Then there is Virtuality and Dog Years. Both are so damn awkward. The rest of the CD is very listenable.

Lost In Xanadu
QUOTE (Gompers @ Apr 9 2012, 07:40 AM) I also gave it a 7. The Good -Test for Echo -Driven -Half the World -Time and Motion -Virtuality The OK -Limbo -The Color of Right -Dog Years The Not so Good -Totem -Resist -Carve Away the Stone I have it as a 8.... but made the following changes for my tastes... The Good -Test for Echo -Driven -Half the World -Totem -Resist The OK -Limbo -The Color of Right -Carve Away the Stone -Virtuality -Dog Years The Not so Good -Time and Motion I know dog years gets a lot of bad press here, but if you don't really focus on the lyrics, which is hard to do with Rush songs, it's a pretty jammin song. It might be my favorite Rush album! It's hard to decide between Hemispheres, PeW, MP, Signals, P/G, and PoW though... my opinion changes a lot, but Grace Under Pressure comes out on top a lot! GrandDesigner
The Great Test For Echo Driven Virtuality Resist The Good Dog Years Half The World The Color Of Right Time & Motion Limbo The Okay Carve Away The Stone Totem I actually really like Dog Years and Virtuality. Musically speaking, they're both really energetic and interesting, and I don't find the lyrics as appalling as others seem to. Plus, there's a complete absence of any truly horrible songs. I'd rate it a 6.5/10. Just slightly less enjoyable than Counterparts, but a solid effort.
Tommy Sawyer
Pretty strong 8. Awesome: Driven, Half the World, Test for Echo, Resist, Totem, Limbo, Virtuality Pretty Good: The Color of Right, Carve Away the Stone Bad: Dog Years, Time and Motion The good far outweigh the bad on this album. CrossedSignals
QUOTE (EmotionDetector @ Apr 10 2012, 08:07 AM) QUOTE (CrossedSignals @ Apr 10 2012, 12:58 AM) The only song on here that gets any play from me is Carve Away The Stone. Really catchy tune and great lyrics. Crazy how we are all so different..."Carve" is my least listened to track on the album. I think I just realized why Carve Away The Stone is my favorite track on T4E... it sounds the most like Vapor Trails of anything on that album, what with the kind of abstract guitar solo + acoustic/electric guitar combo breakdown section + Geddy's ooo ooo vocals. 1 of the 7
7 for me too. Resist is one of my Rush favorites, while Time & Motion is one I'm not so crazy for. The others are in-between...good, but not my faves. I don't mind Dog Years or Virtuality like most people.
laughedatbytime
3 for Driven, 0 for the rest (though Resist is good LIVE).

troutman
To be honest, I haven't listened to it for many years. I could never get in to it. I will have to dig it out and give it some more play time.
