I just re-watched the True Grit remake. I absolutely love the movie in every respect, minus the way it ends. The story ip to that point is perfectly told and potrayed

Jeff Bridge's late career films are all well done. He's a treat to watch. I like the end of the remake though. The Coen's really did a great job on the film. Personally, I enjoyed the bargaining scenes with Mattie and the old guy. That was just crazy good.

Mattie is a terrific performance. For me, a lot of what makes the film so interesting is the juxtaposition of these rough characters.

Yep...they did it right.

What about the ending soured you.

Didn't seem to fit...or be necessary. From the snakebite on all had a vibe that totally departed from the gritty feel of the film, venturing into fantasy. What did it add that wasn't already apparent in terms of character and story development?

For me, going to see him seemed natural. I like the idea she brought him home, to the place where she will lie one day. The music was so dam good at the end IMO

Going for the classics lately? :)

Aye! :madra:

You always seem to fit the classics in there at least once a week anyway.

El Cid is brilliant.

Yeah.

This is now my favorite riffing they've ever done of a non popular movie. I was :rfl: constantly.

Where do you watch these?

I think I saw one riffing This Island Earth but I cannot remember where...

I bought it on the Rifftrax website. This Island Earth was riffed in the actual MST3K movie.

And that completes my final report until we reach touchdown. We're now on full automatic, in the hands of the computers. I have tucked my crew in for the long sleep and I'll be joining them soon. In less than an hour, we'll finish our sixth month out of Cape Kennedy. Six months in deep space - by our time, that is. According to Dr. Haslein's theory of time, in a vehicle travelling nearly the speed of light, the Earth has aged nearly 700 years since we left it, while we've aged hardly at all. Maybe so. This much is probably true - the men who sent us on this journey are long since dead and gone. You who are reading me now are a different breed - I hope a better one. I leave the 20th century with no regrets.

But one more thing - if anybody's listening, that is. Nothing scientific. It's purely personal. But seen from out here everything seems different. Time bends. Space is boundless. It squashes a man's ego. I feel lonely. That's about it. Tell me, though. Does man, that marvel of the universe, that glorious paradox who sent me to the stars, still make war against his brother? Keep his neighbor's children starving?

The going to see him part was fine, to close the natrative. The whole snake journey thing seemed out of place to me.

Yeah, I saw all of those. The only episode I remember liking is the one in which one of those two main humans is trapped underground with a gorilla soldier. I've seen everything that's been released. The two new ones are ok with the last one being better than the James Franco one. Next sequel is going to be called "War of..."

Those new ones are alright but they can't match the original or even the original's sequels. There's a magic missing somewhere.

To me these new ones seem like decent sci-fi flicks but they don't seem like Planet of the Apes films. Would be impossible to top the original Heston one though. But they DO beat the hell out of that Marky Mark one. Man, I hate Tim Burton!

I agree. The new ones don't do anything for me either. The alien-ness of it is gone. There's no feeling to it. I have to think a lot of the problem is the CGI vs. guys in masks.

The Marky Mark one is stupid, like a dumb SNL parody.

Yeah, the CGI has a lot to do with it. Also, the two new ones are more ACTION sci-fi films whereas the Heston ones were thoughtful sci-fi with some action. Can't imagine that Heston quote treeduck had on there earlier being in the new films. And there's no way Marky Mark could've pulled it off
