I thought this was gonna be an action film, not a tepid drama. I don't want to watch The Rock in a drama getting slapped around by drug dealers. The Rock is a wrestler I want to see him throwing people around, and pulverising people in impossible ways, I mean he's not exactly Lord Olivier is he?... :eyeroll:

Julie and Julia

Meryl Streep and Amy Adams star in a lovely little film about cooking. I really enjoyed this one!

Susan Sarandon looks good in it, especially as she was about 65 at the time...

A kind of poor man's Taxi Driver, only instead of a taxi driver this one involves a man who thinks he's a cowboy. There's even a scene very similar to the "you talkin' at me" scene. This film though is slower, less engaging, with less atmosphere and is less eventful. The music is pretty annoying for the most part too.

I liked it. But I did have trouble understanding a lot of what they were saying, they mumbled through thick accents... But I was able to get the bear bones of what was going on.

An Education

I loved it! One of my favourite Best Picture Oscar nominations of the last decade!

Mulligan should have won best actress instead of Bullock that year. Carey's one of my favorite young actresses now. She's great in that new Coen Brothers movie as well.

Billy Black: Something terrible is coming. Kevin Murphy: Yeah. The next Twilight movie. Thank you. :rfl:

I completely agree! Carey Mulligan was sensational in this movie, and An Education was a far better piece of entertainment than the rather mediocre The Blind Side. Don't get me wrong, I really like both films, but Sandra Bullock was not particularly outstanding in that film, and the film was definitely not worthy of being nominated for best picture at the oscars. She was ok, but I felt it was all hype that year.

I really liked this movie. Watched it several times when I rented it to catch everything. Soundtrack is really awesome too.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it! And I agree about the soundtrack! I'm glad we bought it and gave it a chance!

I went in expecting nothing and was pleasantly surprised. Pretty well done!

What is this one about?

It's about a kid (Ryan Gosling) who kills this retarded boy for no apparent reason and the prison teacher (Don Cheadle) who tries to help him and at the same time write a book about him, mostly because he happens to be the son of a famous author (Kevin Spacey).
