I was disappointed by how condensed the twelve years felt. I can judge better after I read the book the film is based on but I have a feeling that the film adaptation is poor. I especially like the scene where one pirate and captain Phillips are face to face and the pirate says "look at me ... Look at me! I didn't know any of this until 45 minutes into the film when the whole film changed from being a kind of lads reunion drama comedy into a sci-fi action comedy.
