Akron162
I dont know if you have noticed, but 2011 has been the best year for music in a very long time. Ive been recounting the albums than have been released this year (at least the ones that have to do with rock) and there are very few than i dont like, i mean take a good look a this year catalog, is really, really good. Even Yes, a band i have take for death, has come up with their best album in like 35 years. Primus, Dream Theater, Amplifier, Wobbler and others are putting out excellent albums, i think even Anglagard are working in a new album that may be released this year. Dont you think this is a really good year?
ColdFireYYZ
This year has been way better than last year. I've listened to a lot of new albums this year, but so far my favorites are: Black Country Communion - 2 Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl Dream Theater - A Dramatic Turn of Events Warren Haynes - Man In Motion Tedeschi Trucks - Revelator Opeth - Heritage Blackfield - Welcome To My DNA Next Tuesday, 3 new albums are being released. Steven Wilson's Grace For Drowning, The Tangent's COMM, and Beth Hart/Joe Bonamassa's Don't Explain. That's going to be an epic day.

Oracle
2011 has been kinda weak for me. I found some really awesome albums so far, but none that have impressed me enough. Some of the ones I recommend: Beardfish - Mammoth Tyler, The Creator - Goblin (not his best; "Bastard" was far better) Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1 (part two comes in February!) Blackfield - Welcome to My DNA (wasn't too impressed, but figured it was worth the listen) Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care Jesu - Ascension Tartar Lamb - Polyimage of Known Exits Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972 Coma Cinema - Blue Suicide Weedeater - Jason...The Dragon Washed Out - Within and Without
Hatchetaxe&saw
It's been a great year, but most years are, you just have to look a bit harder sometimes. Except for Yes, my beloved Yes, who released a series of elongated Buggles farts and totally shat on their legacy from a great height. Sorry Akron, glad you like it though! Aye, well said - every year there are an awful lot of good records put out. In fact, most years there seems to be a thread pretty similar to this one That said, this year a lot of the bigger prog bands have put out some decent stuff. I thought it was pretty inoffensive, uninspiring metal-by-numbers. Not terrible, and nowhere near their worst, but it'll hardly set the world on fire, or get them many new fans. Tony R
September has been an awesome month; Opeth, Steve Wilson and for their fans, Dream Theatre. A new Steve Hackett is due and we've had the Anathema acoustic album too. This year we've seen a truly outstanding Black Country Communion album and a return to form for Joe B. Blackfield released a decent album but there were backward steps for Beardfish and Wobbler. Yes hit new depths with their barrel-scraper of an album FFH.

I disagree, their last Two albums ("Not as Good as the Book", and "Down and Out in Paris AND London") were decent enough, but I'll agree not as good as earlier efforts.. The best Tangent Records I would agree were those with Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings/Transatlantic) in the band... even though I think thier best was their first without Stolt (A Place in the Queue)

My favourite so far is probably either Shining or Lock Up's albums - or maybe Anaal Narthrak. Really looking forward to Tsjuder's comeback album, and Skeletonwitches new one as well, though. Worst is definitely Morbid Angel's effort Edited September 27, 2011 by J0N
