5.9 or 6.0. Seems to have hit DC area, but we felt it here in NJ. That's VERY strong for the East Coast.

Our entire house shook. The table was shaking up and down, chandeliers swinging, the pool water swaying, some small stuff fell from furniture.

COOL!

Newark Airport is closed. Cell service is down. NUTS!!

I hope everyone is okay.

I'm amazed there hasn't been damage reported. This area is NOT equipped to withstand a 5.9. Let's hope there aren't structural issues detected.

I've heard (who knows what is true) but I've heard on the news that there is concern the Washington Monument is tilting.

We felt it all the way up here in Albany. I'm in a tall building, and we got the hell out. Just got back to my desk.

First tremor, I thought it was my overweight supervisor walking by again. She's shaken the floor before. laugh.gif Second and third tremor, I headed for the stairs.

I owe an apology to one of my daughters. I thought she was shaking the kitchen table with her legs and got annoyed with her when she wouldn't stop. laugh.gif

Then I realized everything else was shaking too.

Yeah, and they're saying it's a 5.8, which is barely

felt in California..Truth be known--more like a 6.5 or 7.0.

USGS routinely downgrades Quakes, then tells the media.

They wouldn't be evacuating buildings with a 5.9...

Washington Mon. Leaning? doesn't happen with a 5.9

Think about it....seriously.They're lyin' thru their teeth.

How do we know for sure it was even an "earthquake"?

a lie in Washington? Say it ain't so! ohmy.gif wink.gif

I didn't feel anything up here in Boston so I am not sure it was felt this far up the coast. Any others in this area feel it?

My mother said she didn't feel it in NC, but a few other people in my hometown did, so I can't help but wonder if a tremor can be that site specific?

edit: and Rocky Mount, NC (my hometown) is a 1.5 hours drive from Richmond.

I'm here in at work (NY) IM-ing my mom who is in NC, and she writes, I just felt a tremor under my feet and I wrote back - I thought I was having a panic attack because my monitor was slightly moving and I didn't know why! unsure.gif

the hanging sign by the movie collection squeaked - never did that before! no.gif

It was a "what were you doing when..." moment.

Hope everyone is okay hug2.gif

Definately.

Scariest thing was the lack of cell phone coverage. Not being able to check on the kids to make sure they were okay and not freaking out was definately the worst part.

North Anna nuclear reactor is real damn close to Mineral. I hope everything is okay there.

I've read elsewhere that North Anna was promptly shut down.

Nothing here. Did anyone's pets start acting up just prior? On another board where I'm active, many of the members are reporting "Dog Earthquake Alert Systems"! laugh.gif

My dog was lying on the couch. Mineral, VA is around where the fictional Walton's Mountain is located ("The Waltons" TV series).
