I know...I love gear too....Are you talking of Phillipino Mahogany or African?

Pearl is ok....in tuning, from most things I was taught is to have every lug sound the same, that made it pretty hard for me to do so. I mean I did it fairly well but I didn't like it as much.

The Gretsch phillipino mahogany I don't think is being made anymore. It would be a hybrid (like the Tama Rockstars etc...)

Kazz, now if you had 4 pedals for the other side you'd still be 4 shy of Bozzio's enormo kit. Talk about remote pedals. Damn!

But that's cool Kazz. Nice job on that. I, myself, am deeply jealous. I can see the Hernandez influence. I saw him with Eddie Palmieri last year. F***ing amazing. He did an awesome ostinato with his left foot on a floor mounted block. It was a stunning display of independence.

So the piccolo tom is a wood shell?

No they don't make the wood shells anymore. It's a chrome jobby. El Negro is amazing....When he starts those ostinato patterns, WHOA! The only other drummer I've seen do something similar is Akira Jimbo. That guy throws me because he's always smiling! Even during the really hard parts!

I'm thinking Kazz went with the Marco thing because of the side tom. Marco has this tom that's mounted almost identical except Marco also put a snare on the other side of the head & gets the snare happening!

Actually, the whole side tom was derived from El Negro after watching his dvd with Carl Perazzo and Raul Rekow. I saw how he (and many other drummers) either have a wood block or cowbell mounted in that fasion and went from there. To be honest, MM has very little influence over the design of the kit.

I've had to describe my kit as a hybrid between Peart, El Negro, and Jukka Nevalainen (drummer for Nightwish), to people, but mainly, I'm just trying to go for as a unique look as I can with it.

Drum kits are a work of art.

Dude, you've lost your mind!! laugh.gif

While your adding gear, I've downsized to 4 drums and 5 cymbals. Back to the roots for me, love it.

Those 9000's all lined up sure do look great though.

That's really interesting on how you arrived at the pattern of pedals. It looks almost exactly like MM's.....

I wish I had the money....I have ideas to add onto the 16 piece kit/electronic kit....BUT, I would never play out with it....I don't want to spend 24 hours breaking it down rofl3.gif

I have ideas for a smaller kit but I still would have a large kit to most.

That pic reminds when I worked at GC & was setting up drums. That was the fun of it....I used to have the department in a competition for the most original but playable kit....You should've seen them! Some of them were amazing.....That will be one thing I miss from working there sad.gif

Very interesting. Starclassic maple in Walnut finish? Simmons on the back end....Have you ever want to change those Simmons out?

Thats just a picture that happens to already be on my ftp. I had pulled out the Simmons and dusted them off just toying around and snapped a pic. In the top pic the Starclassics are triggered and cymbals are all electronic. Hart magnum mesh heads (drop in internal triggering using the Roland cone/piezo setup and baskets much like the Roland pd-105/125 pads), Roland TD-8, 2 Alesis DM5's, Roland and Visu-lite cymbals. This cuts down on noise for practice purposes. Much like your Roland setup (which is nice by the way), but with a quick change of heads and cymbals I'm acoustic. Edited by Beatnik

Last picture

I changed my setup a bit...12" tom is higher (heightwise) than the 13" now, and the 13" is pretty much even with the snare. splash is stacked on the 16" ZBT, China is a bit higher (about the same height as the 16" A Custom), and directly next to the floro tom. 18" ZBT is on my left, above the hats. Keyboard is diagonal on the rear/left, not quite in the same position as Neil's MalletKat considering that it's larger and I have less room. The soda cans are gone, and I have some stupid crappy old karioke machine to amplify my keyboard (bah). Anyways, I'll get some pictures later today.

By the way, do you guys think rotos would be a good investment considering that I play a ton of Rush music and don't have the budget to get two or three full expansion toms? Also, what's the cheapest decent electronic kit around?

Probably the Yamaha DTXplorer. They go for around $850.

intresting bit of info...this was my kit about a year ago...

setup's sure changed a bit? tongue.gif

Anyways, what I was thinking of doing (budget permitting) is to move the 18" ZBT over to my right, put 6 8 & 10 rotos above the hats, and maybe either a timbale or a second snare above-ish the keyboard. Then later on down the road try and squeeze an electronic kit in back. Or any other suggestions? I'm all ears, except for everything on my body that isn't ears.

That Yamaha electronic kit I rented once I remember the cute triangle cymbals - It is definatly a space saver and reasonably priced , but i could not commit to it after playing the Roland set at Long and McQuade like Del Tromier's kit. (nice by the way)

I almost bought the Yamaha to incorperate with my 5 peice acoustic DWs

If I had the cash to do it again I would finace the Roland kit I think - Dont get me wrong I prefer playing acoustics but for direct plug in recordings and mixing etc - the electronic Roland is excellent - True Tones-no tuning the presets are nice $7300.00 canadian though. Plus an Amp monthly payments of 440.00- holy crap -thats a car payment

All right, I kind of recently got into drumming and here is my kit. I'm not happy with the "color", but it's fine for now.

12"x10" rack tom

13"x11" rack tom

16"x16" floor tom

18" Pearl crash/ride (useless piece of junk)

14" Sabian B8 Pro hi-hats

16" Zildjian ZHT Fast crash

20" Zildjian ZHT Flat ride

DW 4002 double bass pedals

Pacific Drums by DW make excellent inexpensive beginner kits. So does Gretsch. You might have a look at Pearl Exports too.

I agree totally with Cyg - The pacifics are an excellent choice - They sound really nice -(Maple shells sound so good)

6 months ago a 5 piece Pacific DW ..MX series deep purple in color very original with a Sabian cymbal package (middle of the line ) and built on to it with my old SPD8 drum percussion pad to the left and the tama Roto toms you mentioned - The roto toms are nice if you are used to playing a larger kit

(like I did back in the day (9 piece Pearl PM 7s).

You can simply spin the roto toms left or right to increase or decrease the pitch . Also try an extra floor tom too eventually

I geared up again after buying a new home and my kids pressured the shit out me to buy drums again. Now they want me to show them .

The whole set up minus a hand crafted turkish Zildjian K crash cymbal, 2 cow bells, tamborine, and SPD8 and stick bag cost me about $1500 cdn with tax from a repuitable music store.

Im very happy with the sound but the only beef with pacific drums is the mounting system is new and is not as easy to assemble the drums back to the way you have it exactly comfortable the first time without adjusting everything just so. Also as much as I kicked this around I definatly prefer the traditional floor tom mount (legs that extend to the floor not the attachment to the cymbal stand . It limits the position of the floor tom .. Otherwise excellent choice - I will post my pics when I figure out the new camera

thanks! but what about the rototoms?  confused13.gif

I love my roto toms. Bought them on ebay for about $75. They had some wear and tear, but I'm happy with the sound of them. They will be a part of my kit so long as I drum.

There are some nice deals here...

Roto Toms on eBay.

...Remos normally go for $200-$300 from what I've seen, so if you're just testing the waters, this might be your best bet. Look around, I'm sure a bargain can be found on ebay.
