I think the ticket prices are a f***ing disgrace

But you won't hear me moaning and whining like a little bitch blaming RUSH for the ticket prices.

Nor I. It's not their call. I'm happy they're on the road and hope I get the chance to go when it gets closer. Stranger things have happened. tongue.gif

And it's been astutely and accurately pointed out that even IF the prices were dirt cheap, say...that it just means scalpers would buy even far more of them, make the good priced seats less available, and the band would see even fewer $$$ still.

I think the system is largely a piece of shit...that allows brokers/scalpers and the like to buy tickets ahead of the public and crap like that. That's horseshit. But that's bigger than this show...this tour...this band, however.

What's even more of a disgrace are the made-up convenience charges. It's an additional $26 per ticket for the ones I want. My assumption was that it raises funds for Ticketmaster employees and executives to get as many horse porn subscriptions as they want.

However, after calling Ticketmaster, the woman I spoke to on the phone told me that the convenience charges go towards upgrading the computerized system. I'll believe that when something actually DOES improve, because it hasn't in about 10 years.

Upgrading the computer? With the totals they amass in those charges alone, they ought to be able to fund the entire space travel program.

I've sort of made it a habit to ask them what's "convenient" about the extra fee. Are they going to valet park my car? Do I get free beer?

The name pisses me off. It wasn't so bad when it used to be just a couple of extra bucks. Now they really need to change it to the "F-ck The Fan" fee.

Wrong. The less fortunate can wait for the DVD and then pirate it. I'll set you up.

Are you going to argue that the DVD is as good as being there?

Is that what your saying? smile.gif

Ok so If a ticket cost $85 in PA and is $ 190 bucks in NJ and those two places are less than 3 hours away from each other, then something is wrong in Rush world.

Promoter world is more like it.

Agree....swings like that are completely whack.

yes.gif Promoters suck . You can not lay the blame just on Rush

Absolutely, I wouldn't pay over $200.00. Again it depends I don't need to be in the first 20 rows. With the video screens of today one can get ALL the close ups you want, the boys aren't the most handsome entertainers out there. I will not accept nose bleed but lower level middle is fine with me.

Everyone has their limit I'm sure in this economy. Even with crazy priced tours like U2 360 last year you can find bargains if you try hard enough. I did so when I got to Fed Ex Stadium very early walked around that place 8 times maybe. Then found some guy selling floor seats for $100 valued $55. I gave him a story, went back and forth and settled on a floor seat $60. I got in line early when they let the floor fans on the field and I went to the dead center on the outer stage on the barrier. Bone pranced by several times just a few feet away.

Same for 2.gif on the 4th show in VA, got a ticket same way back and forth for $80, Pavallion asile seat (SCWEET) NOTE....both instances though they were single tickets which I think is much easier to broker down than two.

Peace

I paid $95 a ticket for Billy Joel/Elton John in Salt Lake City in February. These tickets were so high up in the arena that I wished I had brought my binoculars. This was not a broker price...this was straight from the box office...face value.

But, being a life long fan of both of these artists (Billy Joel in particular), it was worth it to me to at least see them once before they both stop touring.

I guess that's how I see Rush. I need to see them, and need to take my son to see them, as much as I can before they call it quits. I am convinced that there's at least one more album in them (after this one that they are working on now, of course), but I can't take any chances. I'm not wealthy...I am a cop in a small, budget-strapped town who makes between $17 and $18 an hour. My husband is a (VERY) small business owner who's taken quite a hit over the last year or so because of the economy. Times are tough all around.

I'll be at one show at least this tour, and probably 2 or 3. No whining about ticket prices here! I'll make it happen!

Either you can pay or you can't. The prices won't change with whining. We already have enough damn threads about this.

P.S. Maiden plays a shorter set and isn't worth as much as Rush. And yes I've seen Maiden before.

In all due respect, people have the right to voice there displeasure at the extreme prices this tour.

Saying that Maiden isn't worth as much as Rush is certainly just your own bias opinion, and not a fact. Also, you have Dream Theater opening for them which brings extra value to the ticket.

The bottom line is, PNC is 155 bucks a ticket plus fees and that equates to nearly 200 bucks a ticket. I love the way people will spin it to justify Rush charging this price because they need to or they will starve. That's a load of crap. Its a choice made between them and there management and we will see if it backfires as they try to do back to back tours.

The disillusioned diehard fan thinks because he loves Rush and will pay anything to see them that the average fan will as well. That is not the case and Rush rely's are a core fan base that see's multiple shows in multiple cities every tour. That is just a fact. If you think high prices will not effect the fans that usually go to 3 or 4 shows, think again.

Dream Theater made the mistake of underestimating the economy by doing a full fledged Progressive Nation tour first instead of the tour for there new album. The result was not being able to do the 2010 album tour due to the economy. The hater will say its because Dream Theater sucks but the fact is, this economy is in deep shit and thinking your bullet proof to that because your Rush is silly. They are not as big as you think they are, and high prices will mean smaller box office numbers. The guy that wants to take his girl or kid to a show at 75 dollars a ticket is going to think a little harder on if its worth it if the ticket is double that price. Think I'm wrong? You should think again.

Excellent post all the way around.

I'm guessing most of the folks asking "whiners" to shut up already aren't in a pickle one way or the other and that going to these shows just isn't an issue for them, financially or otherwise.

Oh really? Assumptions assumptions. I actually am not in a position to go throwing money evrywhere I want to either, but I do what I must. I have taken on extra shifts at work to pay for my Toronto voyage for Rush as my Dad feels that its my responsibility to pay for these sorts of things and not him. So if you honestly think that someone is sick and tired of the whining because they can afford the show, think again.

I said "I'm guessing" and "most," which surely doesn't mean "all" by its very definitition. There's room for you as well. wink.gif

I actually HAVE the money right now. Boom. Could just go charge it and be done. Today I find out I'm staring down a nearly $1,500 car repair bill and I'm sorta glad a couple/few hundred of that is not now gone. So I want to go....I sorta can go....but it'd be a lot easier a choice to make if the tickets weren't so blasted high.

On a more realistic note I'm seeing Porcupine Tree (Neil Peart loves 'em...check em out) on April 28 for $30. I can do that all day long. wink.gif

Damn, I feel your pain on the car repair. I had to spend $1200 last December for emissions crap (thanks oh so f-cking much, Clean Air Act). Fortunately I have the mechanic from God who charged $300 less than the Toyota folks would have.

Oh very good!! Sorry to hear about your recent woes too. UGH.

I like my mechanic too. Head gasket needs replacing and the age of the car is making it a necessity to replace a bunch of other seals while they're in there. God only knows what else they'll find.

cheaper than Rush Vip tickets,lol

I was always concerned that my much-beloved Rush would be retiring soon. Now, it is I that will be retiring from Rush.. after seeing the obscene ticket-pricing fiasco, among other things, I no longer recognize this band as the one I used to hold to such high esteem.

you all know that I am as big a Rushmaniac as anyone on here - my main problem is this: I'm flat out skint. I don't have any spare money, and I have no credit cards. Can't get one, my credit is sh!t. I don't have a savings account with money stashed away to get a house, repair the car with, etc. No profit sharing or 401(k) plan I can draw from...I am, in a word, fukked. But that's my issue, and I am willing to accept that and try to make things happen and get tickets with what little spare cash I have.

My main complaint is this: they are having a pre-sale for tickets (woo-hoo sarcasm.gif) but they're charging $290 per ticket for a package that I cannot even think of being able to afford. Seriously. That's literally a paycheck per ticket for me...it just can't be done. I don't know why they can't have a presale for decent seats in the regular price range that some of us down-on-our-luck Rush fans can afford to pay to go see their favorite band.

So I have to play with chance and hope that decent seats open up right before the show I want to go to happens, otherwise I'm up sh!t's creek without a paddle...sorry, I'm done ranting...

I'm not happy about the ticket prices (I paid $315 for my 13th row center seats, "VIP")... in fact, I was quite disappointed to see them jump so high.

But I shelled out the dough (and was fortunate enough to be able to), because it's Rush - and in particular, because of the nature of THIS tour (which I read as sort of a "for the fans" type tour - I wouldn't have paid that much for other Rush tours... I would've just sat farther back).

But you know, I don't really see the point in bitching about it like so many others. I'm just happy to be going and to have the good seats that I have.

The ticket prices may be high but they surely are very little to do with the band. Do you think Kobe Bryant decides how much the Lakers will charge to see them at Staples? or Wayne Rooney deciding how much to get in to Old Trafford to see Manchester United? Actually, come to think of it, Rush probably have agents that take care of all the financial discussions but I'm not sure who they are.

It is the 'organisation' that decides - the management, the promoters, the record company, the agents etc. Yes the boys are a bit more savvy than the average rockstar but in all likelihood when they get into a discussion somebody, probably Alex, says "Gee those prices seem a bit steep", and the 'organisation' says "Well, you need a spangly new backdrop for 'The Camera Eye', and some new stage set up 'cos the fans won't want to see all that old stuff again" and so on and before you know it the price has gone up to xxx and then some corporate mark-up takes it to triple xxx but the final outcome has very little to do with Geddy, Alex and Neil.

If you want to gauge how much more aggressive the 'organisation' has become in seeking revenue take a look at 'Working Man' compilation - do you think the band said "we really need to get another comp. out, this time of our live/dvd stuff". Well if they were the main driver on that one then I will stand corrected and be happy to agree that they have completely lost their compass.

And of course I'm aware that it is primarily a money-making, profit-seeking, non-caring enterprise as far as the deal that the fan gets but, like everything else in life, if you want the best you have to pay top (and sometimes over the top) dollar.

Having read the posts there are some good points made - the cost to take kids etc. is ridiculous and they should think about that but they are not the only ones - the whole industry should consider that.

If you really want to see the gig then just buy less shoes, eat less burgers, smoke less cigarettes, do less drugs, win the lottery, get a promotion.
