Apparently, Oscar is just a smooth talking money machine. He sells himself well, and makes lots of cash for doing so. Its great to have a wonderfull wife and kids, and be able to workout everyday, so you can take your beating and increase your familys wealth. There is no way im buying that Oscar had nothing left. I believe he is all about the money, and cares not about his legacy at this point.

Well I wasn't disappointed Ticky, it was an exciting and ferocious performance from Pac. He absolutely dismantled Oscar, it was a crushing loss. I was just shocked. Obviously age and inactivity and sleeping in silk sheets have caught up with the golden boy and like Roach said he certainly can't pull the trigger anymore. Also I think being at 147 pounds for weeks killed him, he had no strength in his legs or his punches and he looked slow to react. In fact he looked like an old man trying to swat a blue-arsed fly at times.

Take nothing away from Pac he hammered Oscar. Even Margarito or Cotto couldn't have done a more clinical job. I totally didn't expect that to happen.

Looks like Pac will fight Hatton next in a huge money fight! Then Mayweather or maybe Marquez again and maybe even Cotto, but not Margarito, he'd kill Pac as would Paul Williams.

Oscar was still doing crazy business and promo events in the days right before the fight. The build-up documentaries told me all I needed to know about who was going to win that one (if I had seen this thread earlier I would have challenged your very strong backing of Oscar).

As you rightly say, that is why boxing is so exciting (assuming it ain't fixed of course, which I worry about from time to time - but that's a whole new thread).

Absolutely agree about Margarito, he is awesome. Cotto fight was the performance of the year.

Yeah I picked Oscar heavily, I was in shock pretty much the whole fight. it was "good" shock though, the kind of "good" shock that only boxing can give you I think. Thing is no one has ever treated Oscar as rudely as that, not Tito Trinidad, not Bernard Hopkins, not Ike "Bazooka" Quartey, not Fernando Vargas, or Sugar Shane Mosley. So you know that Oscar had to have been shot or weight-drained or in some other way not the real Oscar.

As for it being fixed, I think there's easier ways to throw a fight than to take 99% of the other guy's punches for 8 rounds and throw hardly anything back. The Oscar-Hopkins fight looks a better fixed fight possiblility to me, Oscar took hardly any punishment and looked comfortable in there for 9 rounds and then suddenly went down and out from a "phantom" body shot. And after that he teamed up with Hopkins to make a promotional company...hmmmm...

Ok the boxing year got off to a good start at the weekend with a good competitive welterweight fight between Berto and Collazo.

On Saturday we have a better one:

At the weigh-in Margarito made weight easily but, Mosley was over by two tenths of a pound. After fifteen minutes all was well as he came back weighing in exactly on 147...

Wanna bet?

Affliction is a PPV and I will bet you anything that it gets more viewers than the HBO show.

Face it guys... boxing is dead. The biggest thing you got going is the russian brothers and they aren't gonna fight each other. sad.gif

FEDOR is considered to be the biggest and best fighter in MMA history. Any fight with him is gonna get more viewers than a boxing match with shlubs. Sorry.

Watch ONE UFC or Affliction PPV and I guarantee you don't watch boxing as much anymore. biggrin.gif

Collazo always get robbed.

I think Margo will win too, Mosley's got the ability to win but he needs to box and move against this guy which isn't his style, he likes to stand and trade and counter the aggressive opponents. Trouble is he doesn't throw enough punches these days and Margo throws punches all night long and has a bulletproof chin.

I don't think Mosley's been the same since the first Forrest fight, in some ways he's like Oscar, he can't always pull the trigger. The only time he looked like the old Mosley was in the second Vargas fight. He didn't look good against Mayorga last time until the KO.

I'm not sure if he'll get stopped I see it going 12, Mosley has a great chin so if he defends well he should last the course. Tony on points.

I totally agree Ticky, that was Mosley's best performance since 2000 (v Oscar) and maybe his best ever. It was an excellent fight to watch and I was just thinking as Shane hit Margo with yet another straight right hand in about round 7 that margo must have a Superman chin, and I was wrong again. It was a shocker! I never would have predicted a Mosley KO against this guy, a win maybe but not a KO. That's why boxing is cool it never fails to surprise me.

I'm glad for Shane he's a good guy.

What about Margarito possibly might have been using plaster of paris in his handwraps in his fights and was found out tonight???

Here's a good question for ya' Tree. I'm watching the re-broadcast right now and before the fight started, Lampley and Merchant were talking about how all the celebs were there for the boxing match. THEN... they said that ONE particular celeb wasn't there, and that was Oscar de la Hoya.

So then... Merchant comes out with an OUTRIGHT lie. He said that "a t-shirt company had to pay Oscar 5 MILLION dollars to attend their promotion of a mixed martial arts exhibition".

z7shysterical.gif

Oscar is a PARTNER with Affliction. He attends every single thing they do. He was at the press conferences in NYC and LA and my son even met him at the NYC one. Oscar is 100 % committed to MMA and his partnership with Affliction. Affliction didn't give Oscar shit. Oscar is promoting Affliction with the same intensity that he's promoting boxing. Maybe more. Oscar is a businessman, one of the best, and he KNOWS that MMA is the number one growing sport in the world.

So then Merchant had to put a dig in that they'd have to pay HIM at least 5 mil to even watch an MMA bout. WHAT A DICK!!! Not that everyone doesn't know that Merchant is a dick, but that was just disgusting of him. Coupled with the LIE that he told in the first place, it just showed the class of Merchant and HBO should fire him for it.

Boxing will never go away, but it's slipping and getting destroyed by MMA. Accept it. tongue.gif

I'll chime in. Merchant is a drunk, why even get annoyed with him ? Second. Just because your enamored with MMA, does not mean everyone is. I have tried watching it, and I don't like it. Its like watching non fake wrestling. I find it boring. Boxing has a rich tradition, and I still enjoy watching it. To each his own.

One more thing. Who gives a rats ass about Oscar ? What does his validation mean ? He would pit his mother against a Rooster, if it made him a few bucks.

Lampley is not only a dick and a drunk he's a wife beater too or a girlfriend beater...

Yeah Oscar did the MMA promotion, I think he really went there, rather than attend the Margarito-Mosley fight, to hide from the boxing fans, no one's seen him in public since he got destroyed by Manny, not at a promotion, press conference, weigh-in nothing.

What was the question though?

MMA is ok, but I always get the feeling it's a disorganised as a spectacle, I don't mean on the promotion side but the fighting itself. It's not a pure sport, it's a mixed bag, as it's title suggests, a hybrid. It's like a sport a bunch of kids would make up out of other sports, I don't mean that as insult btw, it's just how it seems to me. You know what I mean? It has nothing of it's own; it has elements of wrestling, martial arts, boxing, bar room brawling and so forth, but it brings nothing new to the table.

I'll always prefer boxing it's a pure sport that is entirely it's own animal and thus it'll always be there. There's no guarantee MMA will be around in the future though, all of the elements of MMA exist somewhere else so it makes it non-essential to the fan of pure sports.

I enjoyed the Darchinyan-Arce fight last night. I was rooting for Arce but Vic was just too strong. Nice fight though.

Meanwhile it's the Margarito wrapgate hearing on Tuesday.

I wonder about Margarito's credibility, now with his suspension of one year. If he did plaster his hands, who's to say how many fights did that for. Plus he supposedly did that for the Mosely fight, and he STILL lost.
