Will the Cowboys Stadium aka The Death Star aka Jerry World aka Boss Hogg Bowl be the new Madison Square Garden of boxing?

No, I don't think so, but with the tax situation favourable to foreigners, Pac may have more than one more fight there, if he carries on long enough...

Are you taking into account the Latin population in this area and their love for boxing?

ps

Jerry is looking forward to many more fights in the new stadium. At least that is what he said the other day.

One problem is the percieved home bias eg the first Diaz-Malignaggi fight. Fighters won't agree to fight there if they think the judges and ref won't give them a fair shake.

But the main thing is Vegas, Vegas can top any site fee by anyone else for any big fight. They beat Jerry's bid for The aborted Mayweather-Pac fight so it appears Dallas will always be getting Vegas leftovers, unless they have a local marquee fighter, but that's where my other point about fair or infair judges comes in. The other guy will always call for Neutral ground. Edited by treeduck

I wonder what type of gate would result in a fight where 110,000 are in attendance? Vegas leftovers I'll take though. Boxing is alive and well in D/FW. The Golden Boy promotes a fight in downtown Fort Worth every year and it's nice to see Jerry adding more fights in the area.

If we ever allow casino gambling down here Vegas would be f*cked. It will happen one day I'm sure.

The gate fees would easily top vegas, but it's the high roller bigwigs who put up the money that makes vegas the fight capital...

That's why I wonder what the result would be if sports book betting was legal here. Not to mention casinos.

There's high rollers a plenty here. Casinos would just draw in more. Remember ducky, we lead the nation in titty bars. smile.gif

Well the answer lies in why it's not happened in all the years that Vegas has been around? Why isn't Texas the fight captital? Vegas has probably been on top since about 1978.

I still say you need a few local stars to build huge interest. Like we have Ricky Hatton and Amir Khan (and others) here. You have Diaz and Rock Juarez and others but none of them are that big. Diaz is a fairly big draw but he lost his biggest fights.

No doubt Vegas is boxing's mecca. Maybe one day casinos will be allowed here and we'll see how much it affects Vegas.

Personally, I dug the Tyson fights in the Trump plaza in New Jersey.

I'd prefer fights to be all over the country and beyond, Vegas hogging it all the time is boring. You'll have to look into the chances of Texas casinos happening. Are there no indian reservations to build on? That's what they did in Connecticut with Foxwoods, which gets quite a few fights.

There has been a push to get casinos here a few times. If it ever happens I think they would be in specially zoned areas that would be in major cities.

Not much news lately. The push for casino style gambling comes and goes.

Boxing is much better off without Don King.
