Terry
The album has grown on me somewhat. I didn't particularly like it at first, but I do now. It was YYZ from Live in Rio which put me on the course for Rush fandom.
Godeater2112
The first album is devastatingly awesome and is very historically significant since it very much helped define Rush as they are to this day. Go listen to "Hear Again" right now as just one example and tell me that isn't an amazing song. I'll never understand the haters amongst Rush fans. Ya_Big_Tree
I actually like Rush's self titled debut. It got a lot of flack sounding a lot like Led Zeppelin. In a way it kinda does sound like they are trying to imitate that sound. I think in their second album Fly By Night, they started to find their own sound and really come into their own. The Owl
I like the debeut album, but if you put it on a ranking list of all the Rush albums it nears the bottom. Probably second to last for me after "Feedback" That dosen't mean I don't like the album, its just that something has to be at the bottom
workingcinderellaman
Love it. I had to listen to it a few times though. It gets better over the years.
Godeater2112
QUOTE (Ya_Big_Tree @ Sep 14 2007, 12:37 PM) It got a lot of flack sounding a lot like Led Zeppelin. Call me crazy but I am deadly serious when I say.... I think Rush's debut album is a far better piece of work than anything Zeppelin ever put out. If you ever read the story about Rush's first air play in Cleveland, people were calling the station asking if that was new Zeppelin they were playing. I agree, it is very Zeppelinesq...and I agree, it is better than Zep. I think the boys do a better job of flexing their muscle and showing their musical abilities. Godeater2112
And I thought I'd get bashed for that comment! It IS a Rush board I guess - not sure how far that would fly on a Z-board. I love Friday afternoons - everyone is so agreeable. *passes beers to ILS, mort and Kid Gloves* *opens his can of beer and plays kumbaya on guitar*
robertjames1971
I was a big Zeppelin fan when I was a kid, but I sort of grew out of them about the same time I grew out of adolescence... funny how that happens, huh? Back then I would have thought two or three Led Zeppelin records were better than the first Rush record... today I'll take the worst Rush over the best Zeppelin without question. I do think the first record is their worst record by far, but that doesn't mean I don't like it. There are a couple of duds, but nothing unlistenable. And please no picking on poor Rutsey. It's not his fault he was replaced by the greatest drummer on Earth. Anyone would look bad in comparison to Neil Peart.
