THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

When the Patriots turned over the ball on downs Sunday at their own 26 in the fourth quarter, I went upstairs to do some things I needed to do to get ready for the week. I put the game on 98.5 and listened to the radio call. I'm so glad I did:

Entertaining clip! Those are the Patriots' radio announcers? The one guy sounds like they hired him straight from the local tavern.... :laughing guy:

He's actually Scott Zolak, a former Patriots quarterback (circa mid 1990s) himself. He also hosts a radio program on 98.5 weekdays. He's, umm, "animated." But in all seriousness he's both knowledgeable and entertaining.

I figured he was a former player.... :D Over here in Packer Land, we have Packer alumnus Larry McCarren, who is a bit less animated than Zolak. Typical Midwest behavior.....we're mostly calm and easy-going, with only the occasional obnoxious outburst.... :7up:

The Packers DID hire a guy from the local tavern once. His name was Max McGee. He did do some playing between carousing though.

No one played with a hangover as well as McGee did.... ;)

I'm not even sure he was the best on Lombardi's Packers at it.

With the injury to Mayo and other nicks in the secondary the Patriots defense are going to have a hard time stopping any other teams offenses.

That said...GO PATRIOTS

And he was the guy that made the even worse call this week, right? How can people listen to him?

Like I said "Zo" is actually very knowledgeable. If you're a Patriots fan his demeanor probably isn't as grating. Like John Sterling and Suzie Waldman probably are for Yankees fans. Personally they make me want to beat them to death with a blunt object when I hear them.

Zo is actually on 98.5 right now.if you're interested. He hosts a show from 10-2 weekdays.

I've never heard Sterling or Waldman make accusations of bias AND be completely wrong on the rule while yelling in over-the-top voices. Yes, they are certainly homers and that could be very annoying to non-fans, but they aren't this classless.

Well, you're pointing to a very, very, specific example that wouldn't really translate to a different sport. How about Waldman lying about Alex Rodriguez's reception when he returned this season (my recollection is she suggested there were a lot of cheers when it was pretty clear to anyone listening he was being booed out of the stadium)? Give me some time and I can probably think of a few other obnoxious, so thus arguably "classless," examples from both of them.

If you don't like Zolak you can easily avoid listening to him by avoiding the Patriots' local radio broadcast.

I wonder what happened to Brady's hand?

It must have gotten better by giving the officials a hand job during the second quarter.

Damned cheap officials.

I had to stop watching the game in the second quarter. I just got back and saw the final score. Ugly.
