I'd settle for something that didn't sound as if it was recorded at the bottom of a swamp....

Question: would you consider 'Freeze' an epic?

Answer: No, I consider it a pile of steaming dog turd which should never have seen the light of day....

I consider it a 7/8 masterpiece, myself, and it also happens to be %100 impossible to replicate on the drums. yes.gif

An epic, no. Epics are long. That's where the word came from.

If the whole "Fear" series was put together into one song, it'd be an epic.

Freeze is just another 6 minute song in 7/8 time that Rush made (Giggles at the chronilogical order of the numbers).

Sorry for pointing out the obvious to everyone... unsure.gif

I kind of got used to the Vapour Trails production so I'm happy with it now...

You are 'used to' the VT sound? It took me all of 3 listens before I threw it in the trash, never to listen to it again (really).

I just hope the new album sounds like a 'record'!

Hmmmm that's an extreme view... Well you're gonna buy the remaster, right?

3 Listens is by FAR not enough to begin to appreciate Vapor Trails. no.gif Vapor Trails has a HUGE map to cover. I was pretty sick've it for the first 2 weeks of waking up to it. I'd thought I made a big mistake paying my how-much-money for it. sad.gif

But it's clicked now. It's incredibly lovable. trink38.gif

Freeze is my favourite tune on VT, and thus my favourite song from the past 3 albums (T4E and CP are lame to me, by their untouchable standards). And I don't agree that a song has to be LONG to be EPIC. A song can have a totally epic FEEL, and be 4 minutes long!

I'd consider Freeze an epic for the 2000s. Not the 70s!!!

One thing I'd like to see, or hear rather, is Alex really let loose like never before... Solos all over the place...

tasteful yet forceful...

He held back on VT in his own words, he felt guitar solos would be too self indulgent at that time...well now it's time to ROCK baby...!!!

Let it loose Alex!!

Voted for option 15, but that's wishful thinking.

Realistically, it might be option 1 or 3, probably with one or two seven or eight minute tracks.

Ok for me, as I don't regard their really long epic as their masterworks.

A jazzy album would be interesting, too, but that won't happen ...

Things that will make me happy for the new album:

* Some longer songs (they will always be progressive to me)

* Some guitar solos that are not tacked on like an afterthought

* Mucho rocking out like VT

* Some more storytelling (literally) from Neil (probably won't happen as he has shifted to the more introspective and personal lyrics as he has gotten older. I would just love something completely indulgent like the COS through Hemispheres period, although I doubt it would happen again.)

Something that's not a repeat of one of their previous albums. I mean, all of their albums have their own sound, so whenever someone makes a pointless thread like this and says "I hope they go back to a (insert album here) sound," everyone on here knows exactly what they're talking about. Shouldn't the new album add to this, so that in 2009 idiots can say "I hope they go back to a (2007 album) sound, but with maybe more keyboards and epics"?

Think about it.

Neil has described the new songs as "spiritual." This is intriguing.

Oh, and I also hope that at least 3/4 of the new songs make it into the setlist on the upcoming tour. I don't get the VT setlist, where they have this great new album, and they only play 4 songs from it a night, the last one coming at the beginning of the second set. Isn't that why they tour in the first place? To promote the new album? That's one past thing I hope they DO go back to, playing most or all of the new album on tour, like they did in the 70s and 80s through Power Windows.

I want the processes to run like a dream...

I'm hoping for a very smooth recording process during September, a very fast and mistake-free mixing process, quick and perfect mastering process with no sound problems whatsoever and the fastest best packaging process leading to a cool Crimbo pressie for me...

Oh and no oversized digipacks either...

But I'll probably have to wait till my birthday in March
