These 3 epic songs are generally considered the top-tier prog songs by respective bands. What's your favorite between them and why?

Great poll!! Although tricky if you love all three pieces.

For me personally the 1-2-3 would be -

1. Close To The Edge

2. Suppers Ready

3. Starless

Exactly the same for me.

Supper’s Ready is maybe my second favorite song ever. And you already know what number 1 is for me. That said, the other two are absolutely incredible as well. I find CTTE to be very uplifting, and I often return to it around Christmas. Starless on the other hand is a nightmare, but one I’m intoxicated by and provides endless inspiration for my own music. I think I’ll go with Starless for the silver and CTTE for the bronze, but that’s a toss up depending on the day.

Same, but 1 and 2 are really close.

Agreed. Two of my favourite prog bands in their prime .... hard to choose between them.

Let the record show that Bill Bruford is the drummer on two of these three songs.  And he played in all three of these bands.

And when he played in Genesis they were still doing Supper’s Ready live, meaning he’s also performed all three of these songs.

Somehow I feel if you asked Bill Bruford which he likes best, he’d say Starless.

Another amazing fact here is that the vast majority of musicians who played on these recordings are still with us today. Only John Wetton, Ian McDonald, and of course Chris Squire have passed away of them all.

"Supper's Ready," easily, and the others are absolutely great songs, so that tells you how strongly I feel about Supper. The build of it, the dynamics, the crescendo ending; that's the whole package.
