i can agree about yes.  i'll never take anything from their importance and when they were on........NO one like them.

BUT boy some of their lows just blow chunks:laugh:

Like i have to be honest.  i can't get into any of the latter day anderson led records.....i tried but no.

and UNION? da fukk? lol

So yea i think PT just kill yes with the overall quality.  no contest.

Glad your trying them.  i think they're WAY up your alley.

Porcupine Tree's lowest lows are their first few albums. But those were glorified solo albums made in Steven Wilson's basement. Once they got a few of their key players, they were always on.

like the Strech from Stupid Dream-The recent one amazes me.

Yes could never IMO...,ok i sound biased but let me explain..........I am:laugh:

I hate to say it but Porcupine Tree. Loved Yes but they don't have quite as much replay value for me for some reason. plus PT's discog is a lot more consistent all the way throughout, while Yes peaked in the 70s and then slowly got worse and worse and worse - until the point of complete self parody.

This group is making me itch for more PT. I have moments with them. I love Anathema, they have comparable qualities. Solo Wilson has amazing highs...

...maybe a deep dive is in order

i would love to dee you try.  as i feel you kind of are missing out anbd maybe getting the wrong idea of them......in my recent listen i've come to realize the fans always seemingly  connect with Wilson on a prog level but actually he's a killer pop song writer.

Wilson is an interesting guy. i've heard him say in an interview one of his fav bands is ABBA so, lol

I definitely enjoy his solo work, Raven and some other one with the word Erase in the title. He has magnificent music videos too.

His poppier work was interesting too.

Porcupine Tree sounds fantastic and can have some good songs, but it is mostly depressing background music for me.  Yes is more disparate in their sounds, accessible, and can be fun.  Yes, and it’s not even really close for me, though I do enjoy and appreciate Porcupine Tree.
