Entre_Perpetuo
So I recently set myself a challenge: construct a playlist featuring one song from each year represented on my iPod. The farthest back I go is 1957, and I have at least one song or album each year from then until the present. I didn't really try to create and kind of flow or sequence from one song to the next, just picking out songs that convey a cross section of what's on my iPod, what was going on in music at that point in time, or for the more recent entries songs that I feel represent my own state at certain points in time. Anyway here's a link to my playlist on Spotify, and I'll list it out in text here too. Anyone else want to join in? Also to reiterate, it's not any kind of favorite from each year or best from each year, just a good song from each year.

apetersvt
Good idea. I would have a hard time playing because 90 percent of the music I own is from 67-78. Don't have much from the last 20 years.

Mosher
I'm working on mine. I've done 1935-1980, and it's getting much easier since I already know many songs released in the years left. But 1935-1963 was really tough.A lot to choose from, but I kept trying songs that were released in the same year. I wanted to start with Robert Johnson, but I went one year earlier than my favorite song by him just because 1935 seemed to be a better start than 36. I'll be done tomorrow
Mosher
Here's my list, and this was painful. I limited my list to one artist appearance allowed, and tried not to focus on just one or two genre. So this list leaves out so much music and really doesn't reflect my favorites as much as it reflects an overview of stuff I simply like. Release dates may be arguable, especially for older stuff. It's close enough for me. 1935: Big Bill Broonzy -- The Midnight Special1936: Robert Johnson -- They're Red Hot1937: Wade Mainer -- Little Birdie1938: Louis Armstrong -- Shadrack1939: Billie Holiday -- Strange Fruit1940: Bill Monroe -- Mule Skinner Blues 1941: Lead Belly -- New York City1942: Duke Ellington -- Hayfoot, Strawfoot1943: Xavier Cugat -- Brazil1944: Glenn Miller -- A String of Pearls1945: Louis Jordan -- Caldonia1946: Ernest Tubb -- Drivin' Nails in My Coffin 1947: Grandpa Jones -- Old Rattler1948: Stanley Brothers -- Little Maggie1949: J.E. Derek19
I've done, and finished one. I tried to have a rhythm. Some artists, bands, and groups are similar after each other with songs from their best-selling c.ds, and albums to date. There isn't the same artist, band, and group twice. It's different types, and kinds of music. I will do another one. (1950) Mona Lisa - Nat King Cole (1951) There's A Big Blue Cloud (Next to Heaven) - Perry Como (1952) Walkin' My Baby Back Home - Johnnie Ray (1953) I'm Walking Behind You - Eddie Fisher (1954) You'll Never Walk Alone - Roy Hamilton (1955) Rock Around the Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets (1956) Reeling and Rocking - Fats Domino (1957) Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Presley (1958) Great Balls of Fire - Jerry Lee Lewis (1959) Venus - Frankie Avalon (1960) Only the Lonely - Roy Orbison (1961) Stand By Me - Ben E.
