Entre_Perpetuo Posted August 10, 2022 Author Posted August 10, 2022 The Who - Who’s Next Listening to this album feels very aesthetically akin to watching Star Wars. Idk if that makes any sense. 5
ST3V Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 2 absolutely beautiful albums. The more I listen to John Payne's Asia, the more I love it. Wish I saw him with Kansas earlier this year. 4

Segue Myles Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Beast In Black- Berserker This is power metal cheese. The smelliest, cheesiest cheese. Makes Toto look like Slayer. It's fun 😂
Segue Myles Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Testament- Dark Roots Of Earth Masterpiece. 1

I don't think they have EVER phoned it in, but to my ears, the front heavy Chase This Light is the closest they sounded to phoning it in, and Invented sounded like a reinvigorated band 1

It's Chase. i don't hate it.....Don't love it. It's kinda bland for Jimmy. it's not exciting to me at all. Mick Edited August 10, 2022 by bluefox4000 2

After that, the songs stay strong but it really feels repetitive. 2
Segue Myles Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Testament- The Legacy My favourite thrash debut. Brilliant, exciting album 1
Segue Myles Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Testament- Low The groove of this record is insanely addictive! Something I notice every time I return to this record is how much the vocals remind me of Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God. Definitely sense Testament's influence on the next generation of metal! An underrated album, I think this is one of their most exciting sounding releases. Thrash, groove and death metal combine to create a record that far exceeds expectations, especially if you consider what other big eighties thrash metal bands were doing in the nineties. 1

Problem is i forget every song as soon as it's over. it's the only Jimmy album where that happens. and their masters of melody. However nothing is memorable on chase. At least.....not enough to stick with me clearly. Mick 1
bluefox4000 Posted August 10, 2022 Posted August 10, 2022 Jimmy Eat World Bleed American(9/10) Chase This Light (7/10) Mick 3

I do feel though that the super slick and shiny production makes the record less engaging. Jimmy at their best feel like a warm hug with a lot of tenderness and emotion, even when rocking out. Chase This Light is super slick and it contradicts that emotional depth that we seek out from them. The state of emo and pop punk was changing a lot around the time, and the genre was becoming more and more plastic. I feel they wanted to keep up with the times, but it sort of backfires. I sound like I'm being really harsh, I actually genuinely enjoy this album, and love the material. It's just not as great as the sum of its parts. 1

CTL is a let down after it honestly. Mick 1

With Jimmy, it is really hard to commit to a negative because for the most part, I genuinely love any given record. Oddly I'm most down on Damage, even though AGAIN I can list positives. Song for song I love most, if not all, that record. But like CTL, it's the production choices that let it down. 1
Entre_Perpetuo Posted August 11, 2022 Author Posted August 11, 2022 Jethro Tull - A Passion Play Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick I was actually just going alphabetically picking a favorite song from each prog album on my iPod, and listening to each one after i add it to a playlist I'm making to help me with that recent top 10 prog albums poll. But of course, when it came to these two.... 1
Segue Myles Posted August 11, 2022 Posted August 11, 2022 Rush- Roll The Bones The only Rush album I play as much as this one is Moving Pictures. I guess at this point I can say these are my top two Rush albums. Not angry about it. 4
