Better odds of that than winning the Power Ball.

Yeah but the part that extra didn’t make sense was that I had gotten a modern Challenger that somehow had a plastic folding rear window and asked you which ways I fold it

Love seeing SLC replace car lanes with nice wide bike/ped paths in urban core areas

You do not have any inherent right to a 5-lane road when you're just passing through an area. Take a different route if you don't like it.

Closed bolt: nice for keeping stuff clean

open bolt: nice for firing full-auto without overheating

Closed bolt for the first shot, then switches to open bolt: now there's a nice design

They did these in Minneapolis downtown a year or two before the pandemic.  I don't think I've ever seen anyone use them.

Looks plenty used to me. This jibes with what I've repeatedly heard about Minneapolis being a great place to bike, with facilities that actually get used.

Build shit, people won't use it. Build good quality stuff, and they will. We're past the era of a half-assed painted lane right next to 40mph traffic being an acceptable bike lane.

I need to visit this city and a bit of the surrounding, been meaning to for a while

My old Canadian coworker hearing my office speakers and going "you listen to the Tragically Hip?? How do you even know about this band?" was a humorous instance of a surprised individual

He's building our half-assed basement bathroom soon

Compared to the number of cars, this is next to nothing.   And in the downtown area, where there was a ton of gridlock prepandemic (and pre George Floyd) this was extremely annoying trying to get out of downtown, even on the one version of public transportation that actually worked, express busses.  But hey, what's a few minutes of the days of probably thousands ofbpeople vs inconveniencing the sainted few for just a second.

These days downtown is desolate so it really doesn't matter too much.

You're out of your element on this topic, and giving the billionth example of illogical CarBrain in human history. Bitching about "a couple minutes of driver delay" cumulatively resulted in so many shitty road design decisions that we still lose 40,000 people a year to traffic violence, making the US look, well, retarded compared to other western countries.

Our excuse of a conversation on this draws to a close.

It's way harder to visit Edmonton from SLC than it is Calgary

And I don't know if I can do another road trip up there, it's so goddamned long

And they still haven't built the most logical train ever between those twin supercities!

I know you've pulled the "this discussion is over and I win.    Yay me, I'm undefeated" card, but what's the fatalities to miles driven ratio for the US vs those other paradises?

Feel free to ignore the question, you've already declared yourself the victor, and who among mere mortals would dare to disagree?  After all, you're you.

people who are sanguine about other people dictating how they should live should meet the people who would gleefully do so just to know what they really think of them

Sprawl kills walkability,

At some point in most of our lives, walkability without the option to drive becomes a serious negative.

I think one of the worst things Trump ever did is come out in favor of the Kelo decision.   He is not a conservative.

To be clear,  I think that sucks.   It would be interesting to compare the number of occurrences this occurs with light rail vs highwsys.  There's been mile long swaths of property owners screwed over for light rail systems in Mpls.

IIRC that decision was to benefit a developer.  Trump favored the decision not for any semblance of left leanings,  but because of his developer blood

Certainly a proper progressive society shouldn't cater to the needs of useless eaters.  Controlling the temperature is paramount, if only to ensure there are enough ice floes for them when it's been decided that the time is right.

I don't remember either but it doesn't really matter if it's based on his principles (whatever they are) or not, it's still wrong.

Places that are walkable without an option to drive are a total extreme rarity in the US.

Places that are car-dependent without realistic options for anything other than driving are absurdly typical.

That's why we're focusing on the latter, it's much more common.

By the way, at some point in most of our lives, losing the ability to drive is real. Much more real than losing the ability to take rideshares/trains/walk. When people say that we need to make it easier for the elderly to drive, they're missing the point. What's next, make it easier for children or the blind to drive? Better: make it easier to not be functionally forced into driving.
