It takes state championship-grade mental gymnastics to complain about 40mpg, man! If we wanna count the carbon and other emissions, the flights are a good place to start! EPA says 24/32mpg, though. I generally exceed EPA highway numbers by a good margin on anything I drive, due to my driving habits and environment. 19mpg highway rating on the 4Runner? I get 24+ every single time. 34mpg highway rating in the Miata? 70mph = 40mpg for me there.
JohnRogers Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 I think I missed out on the 75 Road Runner maybe a 2013 Corvette GS is the way.

goose Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 90% of the time my doors are unlocked. The back slider 100% of the time.

Regardless of where I am, I don't do that. If I car camp in the middle of nowhere miles from anyone else, I still lock myself inside the vehicle

How do yo "miss out" on a vehicle with brand new emissions controls on it, when they had almost no idea what they were doing? And the look, yikes. Kind of reminds me of an AMC Matador.

There's a method to this madness: if you have a roaring 5.9L V8 that only manages to shit out 120hp, when you put your foot to the floor, you get to listen to those glorious V8 noises for a long time before you're committing high traffic crimes. If I did that in a new Mustang V8, I could never stomp it for more than 4 seconds without going to jail. Malaise-era V8? You can just open the pipes right off a stoplight and you'll just blend in to the Camry next to you. Edited June 21, 2024 by That One Guy 3

Trucks are brilliant for efficiently moving goods the last one or two hundred miles between major distribution/population centers, and the outlying or producing areas. Trucks are not brilliant for moving freight the entire thousand mile journey. We pay dearly for keeping all our interstates and other busy highways high quality enough for constant loaded truck traffic. I see people bitch about wanting EVs to pay more road tax due to weighing 5k lbs instead of 4k lbs, but I don't see people saying "hey, 80,000 lb semis do the majority of damage to major roads, we should make them pay most of the costs". Instead, we subsidize the semis. If we didn't, rail freight would look a lot more attractive. Not to mention how many human lives we waste on the monotony and risks of trucking. 1
