The Cat 3 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Sad news... https://ultimateclassicrock.com/bob-kulick-dead/ 1
The Cat 3 Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 Bruce Kulick’s Facebook post... “I am heartbroken to have to share the news of the passing of my brother Bob Kulick. His love of music, and his talent as a musician and producer should always be celebrated. I know he is at peace now, with my parents, playing his guitar as loud as possible. Please respect the Kulick Family’s privacy during this very sad time.” 1
blueschica Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I hadn't realized that about the KISS work. A musician's musician. RIP, Bob. 1
Presto-digitation Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Very big loss in the Kiss world. Will spin the 78 Paul solo album in remembrance... 2
treeduck Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 RIP Bob. This comes as a shock, I hadn't ever heard that he had any health issues.
Presto-digitation Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I have a friend who is close to both Bob and Bruce and suicide is suspected.
TexMike Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I have a friend who is close to both Bob and Bruce and suicide is suspected. Wow. That would make it all the more sad if true. Perhaps he was diagnosed with something he didn't want to face. Unfortunately he appeared to be quite unhappy during his last 1-2 years and passed away while publicly on bad terms with Bruce (who no doubt is devastated). Bob played on a few great KISS tunes as well as Paul Stanley's excellent 1978 solo album. He was a talent who will be missed. 1

He sounded very odd going on about how he won a grammy over and over, and various other things. At the time I just put it down to a one-off outburst but maybe it was more serious.

Yeah, it did appear to some that Bob was off his rocker of late. The grammy obsession was weird. It's like he felt a need to convince himself that he was a more famous celebrity (or deserved to be) than he really was. Poor guy always seemed a bit troubled. I think he carried some bitterness (and maybe with good reason) that Ace got picked over him. Hopefully he and Bruce were able to mend their relationship before he passed.
Presto-digitation Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 He recently bought a handgun and shared a copy of the permit with said friend. Apparently he’d been obsessed talking about it. Maybe even an accident? We’ll know more soon.

I don't know what happened but next thing Bruce put out a restraining order on Bob, which seemed very strange.

treeduck Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 (edited) Here's a performance from a couple of years ago with Bruce: Edited May 30, 2020 by treeduck 2
Presto-digitation Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Bob was pretty great on all the songs he played on. While I love Bruce, once Kiss was out of makeup I would have loved for Bob to have been offered the job. I know why that look didn’t work when he first auditioned for Kiss originally, but by 1984 after St John they should have asked the elder Kulick. (Hard to be a hair metal band with no hair??). Would have been stoked to have heard him play on several consecutive studio albums as their full-time guitarist. Of course Bruce is amazing, so no harm done, but a part of me would have really dug seeing that opportunity happen... 1
Turbine Freight Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 He made a significant contribution to WASP's Crimson Idol too. RIP. 1
