lessons is the odd one here it seems. isnt that an alex lyric song?

tears is another atypical tune with hugh syme as guest musician. iirc

i always love watching that episode of the twilight zone too.

I'm pretty sure the only song Alex has written lyrics on is Chemistry, (and possibly In The End)

“Lessons” is an interesting song because you wrote the lyrics. How did that come about?

We just thought it would be kind of cool if Ged and I wrote lyrics for at least one song. He wrote “Tears.” That was really the reason. I can’t say that I’m comfortable writing lyrics. Even later on with my solo record, Victor, it was the hardest part. It doesn’t flow for me the way I would like it to. And I’m not sure that would be different if I did it more often. You know, Ged’s “Tears” is so typical of the kind of stuff that he likes to write and do, even today. He likes those more ballad-y pieces that are emotive and sweet. I’m the dirty, heavy guy [laughs].

incredibly enough their own website is wrong and this not the first instance pointed out here at TRF.

the article is real enough and has some good insights imo.

Something For Nothing, always thought Bangkok was just a good bit of fun, but SFN really wraps up the album in style!

As much as I love "Passage" -- and I really do -- does anyone else think it's one of those slightly lazy "naming a bunch of cities" songs, where the real trick is just to get all the syllables to scan? It has that cliched "oriental" thing in it. I dunno; great song, but . . .

Chemistry's lyrics were jointly credited to all 3 of the band.

Alex also wrote Here Again as well as the aforementioned Lessons.

The recording is perfectly engineered. That helps a lot.

But I love songs that have lists of things in the lyrics. We didn't start the fire...

Something For Nothing does indeed rock like a motherfukker. That said, for me it's Bangkok. It rocks nicely and has a helluva groove as well. It's also got the nice power chords, the Asian music bits, creative lyrics, etc.
