Saw them open for Aerosmith in 1994. Pretty good set.

Texas King
Still no Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk Railroad, T. Rex, Dead Kennedys?Lame and silly.

The first 3 should be in, although Lizzy does nothing for me personally.

The first 3 should be in, although Lizzy does nothing for me personally. maiden have been my 2nd favorite band for most of my life, but they are not nearly as influential as king crimson, and probably not as influential as t-rex either. maiden's influence doesn't really go beyond heavy metal. and if it's sales you're going by, t-rex were as big in england in the 1970s as def leppard were in america in the 80s. bathory
thing is, I can't really figure out what the hall is about. if their criteria is sales, they've got some questionable picks. if their criteria is influence, bands like bon jovi make no sense because they haven't influenced anybody. Texas King
You know you're getting older when a band like Radiohead whose popularity was at its peak back when I was in high school is eligible for the hall. And a big majority of RATM fanbase are millennials. And that band and Radiohead are nominated for RnRHoF, while some other 'classic' acts are still ignored? Rick N. Backer
King Crimson, Tull, Grand Funk, Marc Bolan's band and the Kennedys aren't really HoF material. Why? Crimson is a band that prog heads love, but the general public has no idea they exist. They've never had their "moment" when something they released really caught fire. I've tried to get into them, based on the raves they get on this forum. I can't. Tull is similar, although you can argue that Aqualung enjoyed somewhat wide appeal. I personally like them, but that's hardly the test for HoF qualification. Grand Funk and T. Rexstasy are pretty close to one hit wonders.

Segue Myles
Anyone who thinks Radiohead are old news...don't come to the UK. Every new album release is treated like the second coming of Christ.
bathory
can't really say mainstream acceptance is #1 for the hall when bands like the ramones are in. and notice how MC5 are nominated this year - clearly some level of influence is factored into that decision. crimson basically invented prog rock - you may not dig the tropes (long songs, little to no pop sensibility, mellotron), but the influence is there, and the influence extends beyond prog rock. ask david bowie compare that to priest and maiden, who are both seen as spinal tap inspirations outside of hard rock/metal circles

Or selling out five nights in a row at the 20k seat LA Forum? Tull were huge in the early to mid-70s.

Crimson's purported influence on someone like Bowie notwithstanding, I just don't see them being a HoF band, unless HoF is a synonym for "someone who their fans like."
