A lot of good ones have been mentioned already.

Here's another...

That scene in which he's telling Dufresne (who's already in solitary confinement) that he'll "cast him down with the sodomites" and that he'll "think he's been f***** by a freight train" is far scarier and evil than Darth Vader ever was.

Yes the warden is pure evil

Nurse Ratchet

Nurse_Ratched.jpg

Why is she a villain? She is a nurse that is taking care of the sick ones.

That says a lot if you can't see she's a villain.

Sure, she is not nice. And controlling the patients a lot. But evil? Nah.. if she is a evil villain then 2/3 of all the nurses is.

What movie did you watch? She has absolute power. She's heartless and humiliates patients and uses electric shock as treatment. And her ultimate weapon---a LOBOTOMY!!!!!

Apparently, the only way to win is if you're a giant Native American that can rip a several hundred pound porcelain toilet fixture out of the floor and chuck it through the barred window.

The great thing about the character is that she believes she's doing the right thing all the way. She doesn't even know she's evil. She's so good at it that she's convinced you that she's not so bad.

Behind all the colorful characters and battle of wills, this movie is a shout at cruel and corrupt mental health facilities stateside 50+ years ago.

Lobotomy? When did she do that in the movie? Must have missed that.

Are you serious?

Did you think McMurphy just had frontal lobe scars for nothing and was simply groggy before Bromden smothers him to death? And why did you think Bromden did that?

And stifling social institutions in general (i.e. schools, the workplace...).

We could analyze Mildred Ratched all day long.....on a personal level, as a metaphor for the all-powerful State bureaucracy, ...... she is a majorly profound character.

Power-hungry, sadistic tyrants like Ratched don't care about being Good or Evil. They care about controlling everything and everybody, and they will stop at nothing to get their way. If she were in the Star Wars universe, Ratched would be a Sith. She lives off her anger and hatred of those who defy her. No compassion, no mercy, no respect for anyone...... :o :o

Could it mean that McMurphy & Bromden are Han & Chewie respectively? Harding is C3PO? Martini an Ewok?

Why did you have to soil what you had written by ending with a Sith analogy? :poke:

Funny but true story: My niece has been attending a local private university, so she has to take a few required courses in Theology. Having had no religious upbringing, she was having trouble comprehending all the philosophies about Sin and its nature.

I put it all into a Star Wars context = Sin is the same as turning to the Dark Side. With each little sin/wrong that you commit, with each lie, or theft, or hurtful thing towards others, you take another step towards the Dark Side (or, in Christian terms, turn away from God and towards Hell). That is the Dark Path. Every sin you commit takes you further and further down the Dark Path until there is no return.

She started laughing out loud and shouted, "My head just exploded! I GET IT!!" All her theological questions were answered. :laughing guy: :laughing guy:
