Just watched a bunch of live VH stuff from Oakland '81 and the '83 US Festival. Dave was a hell of a stage presence, but I hate how often he would, rather than sing, just say the lyrics...or skip them all together. The man could jump, though.

Yes he could. He even wrote a song about it.

It has to be Dave, I wouldn't call Ozzy a showman as such. Ozzy is just Ozzy...

Agreed!

But my beer infused brain has been listening to Diary and the live album tonight.

EPIC SHIT MAN!

BUT!

DAVE IS THE MAN!

Some label him a talentless ass clown.

I love him and will always respect him.

I saw both David Lee Roth Tours with Greg, Vai and Billy.

They blew away that SAM HALEN SHITE!

AND!

My opinion matters.

Because I saw the 5150 Tour! Cow Palace. Same place where I saw the 1984 Tour and Rush GUP.

Cum on boyz.

Give me a break.

BTO opens for SLAM HALEN.

They were BETTER!

Another Canadian band I saw!!!

I hated that Van Hagar shit even in 1985.

I went for Eddie and hoping to see a killer Alex solo.

His drum solo was shite.

He had about ten clear octobans around his shit SIMMONS kit.

He never even touched them.

It was all speed and boring noise.

I was so bummed as a 17 year old kid.

However.

I was a spoiled 16 year old boy seeing Van Halen and Rush in 1984!!

Life is short.

Do what you can to ROCK.

Our ERA is coming to an END.

GET OUT THERE AND SEE BANDS BEFORE THEY DIE OR RETIRE!!!

This thread made me realize I don't care for front men. It starts with the music, if I can't connect with that all the theatrics in the world on stage won't help me like it any more. I look at my favorite bands, and I don't see any with 'front men/women'.

I'm getting that way as I get older. My favourite "stars" in music are Ville Valo, Cristina Scabbia and Tuomas Holopainen. That's it really...yes I love the work and music of Springsteen but it's a no brainer calling him the main focus of his music lol

I saw DLR Van Halen twice and my eyes were fixated on Eddie for both shows.

A Van Halen show was a three ring circus and DLR was the ringmaster.

Roth.

And I think Dave is an underrated singer and lyricist. Great wit. Roth is a real interesting guy .. everyone should read his book. He's not a dumb blond surfer dude. Martial artist, rock climber, skateboarder, trips to the amazon..friggin EMT IN NYC! ..

I understand. That's why I love Ozzy. Kind of a unique goofball of a guy. Maybe it doesn't make sense, but there it is.

Overall I prefer Ozzy as a performer and singer but it's not what you call showmanship in the way DLR does it, that's just Dave's thing.
