Just watched a bunch of live VH stuff from Oakland '81 and the '83 US Festival. Dave was a hell of a stage presence, but I hate how often he would, rather than sing, just say the lyrics...or skip them all together. The man could jump, though.

I went for Eddie and hoping to see a killer Alex solo.

I was so bummed as a 17 year old kid.

This thread made me realize I don't care for front men. It starts with the music, if I can't connect with that all the theatrics in the world on stage won't help me like it any more. I look at my favorite bands, and I don't see any with 'front men/women'.

I'm getting that way as I get older. My favourite "stars" in music are Ville Valo, Cristina Scabbia and Tuomas Holopainen. That's it really...yes I love the work and music of Springsteen but it's a no brainer calling him the main focus of his music lol

I saw DLR Van Halen twice and my eyes were fixated on Eddie for both shows.

 

A Van Halen show was a three ring circus and DLR was the ringmaster.

Overall I prefer Ozzy as a performer and singer but it's not what you call showmanship in the way DLR does it, that's just Dave's thing.
