I saw Steely Dan last this year in Vegas. First time. I thought they sucked. Perhaps they needed Steve Gadd on the drums.

Anyway, I put on "AJA" tonight.

An epic masterpiece album.

Every Rush Fan on the planet should own this record.

The title track will always be my favorite.

It's all about Gadd's triplets...................

Love everything by them but this album is extra special. I saw them last year and thought they were quite good considering the difficulty of reproducing those sounds live. They did bring an army with them to try, the stage was packed.

A perfect album, from start to finish. Not a single wasted note, nor subpar moment. This album is a desert island disc for me, for sure.

All of the Dan's output from 1972-'80 is unique- just a brilliant run of albums. But Aja is surely their masterpiece, in songwriting and execution. A greater collection of studio musicians I've never heard, or heard of.

Steve Gadd and Bernard Purdie are both just divine in what they contributed. Chuck Rainey, Jim Keltner, Tom Scott, Wayne Shorter, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritenour, Denny Dias...please! Just incredible.

Steve Gadd is Mr. Triplets!

Deacon Blues will always be my favorite, however.

I want a name when I lose

They call Alabama the Crimson Tide

Call me Deacon Blues..."

I have a short bit (maybe 15-20 minutes, total) of studio rehearsals and outtakes from Aja, including a very different arrangement if I Got the News, compared to what went on the finished album. I like it a lot.

Hahaha! I saw the Steve Gadd Band at Yoshi's. At the meet and great I told him that he was "Mr. Triplets." He looked up at me and smiled. He asked if I was a drummer, I said "heck yeah!" He said, "do you still play?" I responded "every day!" He signed my Gadd Band album cover and wrote, "Earl, keep on playing!"

Great man.

I've met

Weckl

Phillips

Copeland

Tim Alexander

Mike Portnoy

and Neil.

Neil was worse than Mike! LOL! (Of course)

But all of the other drummers I've met were so cool!!!!

It's an approx. 40-minute disc of outtakes from both Katy Lied and Aja- I downloaded it from guitars101 pretty recently. I can run it off if you'd like.

Sophisticated, polished and their best selling album.

Not my favourite album by The Dan though. That would be the funky The Royal Scam.

Yeah mine are Scam and Ecstasy. Have a special soft spot for Gaucho.

I also love Countdown to Ecstasy...that one doesn't get enough love, in my opinion.
