  1. I talk about What You're Doing all the time. I think it would be the perfect song from the debut album to break out of the vault for R40. Geddy could definitely handle the vocals. It was the closer on ATWAS, so it has meaningful history. As others have said, the main riff is killer, but I also love the solo. It's so smooth, yet it still kicks ass, which personifies the genius that is Alex Lifeson.
  2. Juvenile? More like embryonic. With defects. Well that's better than being condescending…
  3. Wow, I think this is about as close as I've ever come to totally agreeing with you. I would, however, add in a shout out to UFO and Dream Theater. No one will ever come close to Rush for me though.
  4. CoS was WAY ahead of its time. It isn't Rush's fault that fans didn't know how to handle such a wonderful album at the time it was released. I was only 10 years old at the time, but if I had been old enough I would have slapped people silly for their lame reception of this fantastic, creative work of art.
  5. I've never seen any sort of bit-cover as a disgrace to the original so long as it's in key and produced well enough... There's no destruction going on here, it's just translating the song into a different format. Personally I love 8 bit covers of songs because it makes it much easier for me to learn to play songs (if I'm going by ear). If you'd like a Rush song destroyed or you, . before I click, that BETTER be either mindless self indulgence's tom sawyer or dream theater's passage to bangkok edit: it's even scarier! aaaahgh I'd never seen DT's Bangkok before. Jesus Christ Yeah, if I never heard of DT's original material before I would've had no interest in ever listening to their music. Actually that Bangkok cover was my first exposure to DT but it definitely painted an unfavorable impression of the band on me for a good 4 years. The vocals are atrocious. They do much better with the Necromancer. His vocals are pretty atrocious in general, especially when he tries to do Geddy! Geddy did Bangkok infinitely better on the Snakes Tour. Their Necromancer cover is pretty cool though, bad vocals though Yes I completely agree. Vocals are the least importantant element of music for me though, so i still really like DT, even though I don't care for his voice.
  6. I'd be fine with a medley… but ONLY if it were a medley of say... Subdivisions, Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Spirit of Radio, Working Man, Freewil. If they want to truncate these songs that we've all already seen live a boatload of times into a 10 minute medley to open up the setlist for more of the songs we've hardly ever or never seen, I'm all for it.
  7. You want them to abbreviate Hemispheres - Hemispheres - to make room for . . . Chain Lightning and The Big Wheel?             exactly. :boo hiss:
  8. I completely disagree. It may not be as technically difficult as the Freewill solo, but IMO, it is the most artistic solo on PW, and fits the song perfectly. I love the way he seamlessly combines several different sounds and techniques in that solo. The man is a pure genius, and this solo is just one of many examples that prove so. :haz:
  9. Why would we even create a thread about it? About Jacob's Ladder? If you have a complaint, see Toymaker. Toymaker is not qualified to diagnose and treat such complaints. Except he may, as a friend, advise listening to certain songs at high volumes. http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd499/FLY_IGGLES_FLY/rush_st2.jpg
  10. Gave me a chance to catch some zzzzz... :) Narp, have you picked up the S&A Live DVD? I'm an old-school guy like you, but I really like S&A Live. A couple of songs that stand out to me as much better live than studio are Secret Touch (VT), and The Way the Wind Blows (S&A). Plus I also think The Main Monkey Business, Malignant Narpcissism, and Far Cry are great songs. Combine that with the great selection of resurrected older stuff and it makes for an excellent DVD, especially if you have a nice sound system. FWIW. :finbar:
  11. And Digital Man also!. I agree, S&A was easily the best setlist over the past several tours.
  12. Great breakdown, but you forgot the 4th tenet which is that everything before album (X) sucked because they hadn't matured as musicians yet, and everything after album (X) is great. Sorry to nitpick! :P
  13. Some people think it's their best work ever, some have it near the bottom of their list, some don't like it all, while most (me included) see it somewhere in between. Just like every other Rush album. That's just the way it is and it will never change. Might as well just accept it.
  14. Great album indeed! I completely agree with you guys: By-Tor is the best song, and the slide solo is killer. Plus I'll add that Beneath, Between and Behind was the first glimpse we got of Neil's greatness as a lyricist.
  15. No kidding guys! COS is without a doubt the baddest ass album artwork ever!
  16. That Exit Stage Left shirt is the bomb Sure is. Can't be many of them still around. Don't think it was part of the reissue campaign either..... No...these were all originals! If I didn't get them at a show, they were Back Stage club when it was a liquidating faction more than anything. Totally agree DS! That was the one that caught my eye right away too (even before I saw your quote.)
  17. Wait a sec. You have 7-8 Rush tees and you call that an addiction? Seriously??????? Yeah, that's more like it. I'm only somewhere in the 20's, maybe 30, plus a hoodie, baseball jersey, hat, socks, and probably something I'm forgetting… :P
  18. Natural Science tips the scales for me. One of the top 3-4 songs ever IMO. Don't really care to see Different Strings, but I don't care to see Losing It either so that's a wash. Would love Digital Man and The Weapon from Signals. I hope they don't do either in their entirety. Personally I would much, much, much, much, much rather see them do Hemispheres.
  19. That works out well when you know they'll be playing the stuff you like. Imagine if you went in not knowing the setlist and then 90% of what they played was from the first 6 albums. I think you'd be a bit disappointed. After that happens couple of times you might find yourself checking the setlist ahead of time to avoid being let down, if for no other reason. That said, I've decided to go to the opener this tour, and it will be my first time not knowing the setlist since probably the Hold Your Fire tour. I'm trying not to have any expectations and avoid getting my hopes up that they really WILL be "jammin' to the oldies", as Neil put it..
  20. Well I have tix for 5 shows as of today, some pretty good seats and some very good seats… and as far as I'm concerned that would be AWESOME!!!! I think its more likely we'll see a "hit parade" tour though. I'm both anxious and fearful to find out the setlist… and I may end up selling off some of my tickets if the first 6 albums aren't well represented.
  21. It depends on the venue. I purchased tickets from 4-5 different venues and each had it's own shipping policies. I think all of mine said they would ship by regular mail within 2-4 weeks from date of purchase. ( I don't like printing e-tickets because I like keeping my ticket stub (or whole ticket these days) as sort of a souvenir.) I did not purchase any from Buffalo though.
  22. I'm pretty sure it is all about foiling the scalpers. It's awfully tough to scalp tickets if you don't know their exact location and have to show ID two hours prior to the show to pick them up. Imagine you wanted to resell the tickets you just purchased - how would you do it? The theory is that this policy enables real fans to get choice seats at ticket office prices, but now the TicketBasterds are pretty much charging scalper prices at the box office… so I'm not sure if I like the policy or not. My biggest problem is that there is a HUGE difference between 1st row center and 10th row on the outer aisle. I have VIP Gold for Philly, and I'm going to very disappointed if I'm not 1st or 2nd row center, and I'll absolutely want to KILL someone if I'm on the outer aisles.
  23. I agree. You can pretty much count on everyone in front of you standing. If I were you, I think I'd keep the tickets, enter the show, then go up to the area you'd like to sit and offer to trade tickets with someone. I'm guessing you wouldn't have much trouble trading 16th row floor seats for some very good lower level seats. If you think you can stand long enough, you can maybe even wait until intermission. Just a thought.
  24. Not saying it isn't a good price for the ticket (relatively and subjectively speaking, of course). I was just taken aback because "1st row behind VIP section" should mean 16th row, which is clearly not the case.
