  1. I couldn't wear one of those unless I did some serious manscaping down there. It'd look like a trapped a squirrel in there!

  2. In his 20-year career, Tony Gwynn compiled more plate appearances vs. Greg Maddux than any other pitcher (107). Not once did he strike out.

  3. Alex has always been sloppy but it had energy, passion and emotion. Still does in my opinion. Neil's playing is less aggressive but damned precise now. It's evolved. Listen to some old boots where his tempos where fast of even sped up and slowed down in songs. He has not declined, he has evolved. Anyone who thinks that Geddy's bass playing has declined at all either (a) does not know how to play bass and/or (b) is listening to the wrong band because you obviously have no appreciation for talent. Geddy's bass playing has actually improved every album without exception. He is an absolute monster and seems to never have a bad night on bass. He is my God! He has absolutely lost his upper range and has changed the way he sings to get through a tour and hit some high notes that are uncomfortable. He does it for us and if you think otherwise, you're fooling yourself. Believe me, they could be very happy touring and playing just the songs that are comfortable. He pushes through on the older stuff cause he knows that's what a lot of us want to hear. These three are remarkable musicians who are still doing what they love to do. If I could play like that at 60 I know I would still be doing it and if you don't want to come watch...

  6. He's just looking for attention. He makes a million of these threads a day, though usually about individual songs that nobody wants to see. Next he'll be asking about the entire Roll the Bones album being played. Chill out, Zumbi. Just chill out. I wouldn't mind seeing Roll the Bones played in its entirety

  8. I probably have done exactly that before. Love Hemispheres, not so much AFTK. Sometimes there is just no accounting for bad taste. It is blasphemous to post that you don't care much for AFTK.

  9. I met him briefly at a fan appreciation day before the All Star Game in Baltimore. But when I spoke with him, I felt like he was genuinely interested in what I had to say about the direction of the game and the role SABR and statistics should play in understanding baseball. By all accounts that I read, he was a gentleman.

  10. Only one time in his career did Tony strike out 3 times in one game. That pitcher was Dodger great Bob Welch who just died last week.. :o

  11. If you browse all the comments being posted this morning around the country it amazing to see the universal respect baseball fans had for Tony. Not one negative comment. All praise and deep sorrow.

  14. Sad Sad day here in San Diego. I watched him his whole career, sat through hundreds of games cheering him on, attended his final game and the big empty hole he left has never been filled, it just never felt the same after he was gone. :|

  15. Most of the complaints I see here amount to nothing more than a failure to see the forest for the trees. Getting all anal about miniscule details is a waste of time. Alex is a bit sloppy? So what? He's always been a bit sloppy live, there is evidence of this throughout their career. Everybody slobs all over ATWAS's knob all of the time and look at how "sloppy" that performance was! They are at a point of their career where they are playing more tightly and more cohesively as a unit than ever before. So what if Alex flubs a few notes here and there, or if Neil isn't playing every single tom hit in the Freewill drum fills. They are human beings not jukeboxes. These things happen in live performance. The band still sounds good as a unit which should be the most important thing. It's slightly off topic, but I feel relevant: I think that some fans like to believe that Rush were the greatest, most technically proficient musicians in the world at some point. They never were. They're a rock band who plays music that happens to be more complex than most other rock or pop music played on the radio. This isn't Mozart.

  19. Congrats to US Open Champion Martin Kaymer, who won in convincing fashion. What a golfing machine he is. I hope he doesn't change anything about his game or his demeanor, just stay as he is. Wunderbar! :dweez: Hats off to Eric Compton for his wonderful play.

  21. Yes they should be performing live. If you disagree, then do not buy tickets. Do not buy the live album/DVD. Play your favourite records. And shut up. I hate this stupid thread. I would murder my mum for a chance to see them live! (Ok...maybe not...). For all of you who saw them first time round when they were young GOOD FOR YOU. As for young fans like myself, we make do with what we have AND APPRECIATE IT REGARDLESS OF THEIR AGE. Why are Rush fans so friggin' critical of the live performances of men nearing their sixties in the fourth decade of their career? DUMB STUPID THREAD.

  22. I really enjoy baseball history and reading about all the great players from the past. I always imagine what it was like watching great players. Well, I did watch a great player in Tony Gwynn. His stats stack up with anyone whoever played the game.

  26. It's Irish. I personally think its a beautiful name. Maybe someone in his family that is no longer with us is named finean. All we know is that is the child's name. I was named after my great-grandmother and consider it an honor. First name and middle name after my grandmother.

  28. I'm inclined to a good agree but consider these dudes. Ever seen Les Paul play? Mel Torme? They were stroking it well into their lives They better stop soon lest they go blind :laughing guy: Or need hand surgery to fix the damage done..... :codger: You think they'd have learned from your experience! My unsolicited advice to all pubescent males out there is to become ambidextrous soonest....

  30. He was so good, It seemed that every time he was at the plate a hit was automatic! I remember watching him hit everything thrown at him during the 1998 World Series. Amazing performance. He was a class act.

  37. I'm curious as to why you think this is overrated (I actually don't disagree with your opinion). The unbearably bleak, dark, and industrial setting. How can you call a film overrated when the vey thing the film sets out to be is accomplished perfectly? I am sorry Singin' In The Rain is overrated. It's the perfect musical! Come on Mountain Buddy! Give us some more details! A quiet man whose girlfriend gives birth to a mutant and leaves him with it. I'd rather watch turtles mate. Much more interesting. Have you ever heard tortoises mating? They're quite funny with their little "uh, uh" noises.

  40. It's just ridiculous to claim they are playing "bad" now, either trolling or doesn't know shit about live music. Their playing may not be quite as precise and tight as back in the 70s or 80s, but certainly not much worse. And EVERY musician gets worse to some degree with age, that's just natural. But for their age and compared to other bands, they still play very well for sure. If you want to hear a poor, sloppy live band, go listen to Metallica nowadays (and they aren't even as old as Rush)...

  43. I Have absolutely no issues with how they're playing, I hope they continue to tour. But you could argue that Alex and Neil aren't quite as good as they once were. I would agree that they are playing super tight lately But saying they are not as good as thirty years ago still pretty much implies that they are better than 99% of other bands!

  46. They still have plenty of gas in the tank!, Compared to a lot of bands from their era they blow most out of the water. They will make the call when the time is right. The problem that some people don't realize is that we are spoiled by them. They are so damn good we expect them to go on forever and don't take that in to account. I told my self years ago to just go with the flow and hope they can still dish it out as time goes by. Take the last few tours, I go in with the mind set that it's not the 70's,80's, 90's ect. So I never get my hopes up to much. I know that they will play at there highest level at this point of there career and that's all one can ask for. Asking for to much at this point is meaningless. :7up: :rush:
