  1. It was time for change or "time to change" when Greg wrote that inspiring song to accommodate his brother Peter. They didn't win if I recall but the lesson was they tried. Enough about the Brady Bunch.. I just wanted to scream something personal from the mountain tops. Don't see a large hill much less a mountain around here so here goes. All in the last 10 months..... 1 Right hand surgery and long term disability 2 Quit drinking beer daily (back in May). Used to drink 3-6 at home every day, every evening for 10 years!! Now None!! 3 Many of you know... Since my cast came off in May I have lost approx 45 lbs. My body is in the best shape its ever been. 36 + waist to 32 waist in 8 months. Diet change along with all the workout time. This is not a fad it is a lifestyle change. 4 Found this forum and signed up in September. I have jumped out of my shell and comfort zone and decided to hit "Post" the first time and haven't looked back. This is my first on-line experience of any kind and it has been wonderful. Last but not least. My last remaining and longest standing vice is now history as well!!! This vice has remained hidden from view from most friends and family. I have really been ashamed of it but have never quit until this week. NICOTINE !! Snuff!! Ewwww. Gross. Well maybe. I kept it well hidden and my teeth really don't look like something out of Deliverance. You would never know I did it unless you knew. I was embarrassed and very discrete. Anyway. Have been on the sh*t since my baseball days and stopped cold turkey 5 days ago. Still feeling a bit weird and unbalanced, tingly etc. I wouldn't have wanted to be near me the first few days either . Not looking for any credit for doing the right thing. Just wanted to get this sh*t off my chest.... Anyway its over and I will never go back. My 30 + year old best buddy (vice) is gone forever. Adios and good riddance!!!! And a big F U while I'm at it!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) Zero vices now and counting !!!!!!!!!

  3. I'm probably going to sound like a pecker-head here, but what in the F are people complaining about Geddy's voice for? The guy sounds goddam amazing, 60 years old or not. But, to answer the original question - Yes, I would be opposed. There is NO need for any enhancement period.

  6. I used to post in here when I first joined TRF but after a while it gets a bit dull discussing how much you like Rush. That being said, I thought I would dedicate this post to how awesome Rush truly is. I can't think of any other ban in history that has consistently produced quality original music for almost fifty years now. They have adapted, changed and remained an influential band that doesn't have to rely on old hits from the seventies to preform live. I honestly can't think of any other band that can do or has done what Rush has accomplished. I spend most of my time here in SOCN because I like to read posts from informed, intelligent people. Sometimes I forget that I'm on a forum dedicated to a rock band. I believe that the depth of Rush is revealed in its fan base. Long live Rush and long live TRF!

  7. THE Vapor Troll. He's a psuedo Rush fan, and friend to the late Michael Jackson. He actually wrote "The way you make me feel" by MJ

  8. If we have a time machine, why limit ourselves to just one? We could have 70's open-shirt Geddy, 80's bad haircut Geddy, and so on, in a choir. For the set closer Rush could play Battle Scar with themselves! A few Geddys, a couple of Alexes, and a drum duet of pre-Freddy and post-Freddy Neils. Mmmmm I want a 1996 Geddy for my personal collection.

  9. Why does everyone whinge about rereleases? Don't buy them if you don't want them! They are good advertising, as any new release creates some new interest, no one complains when a classic film gets a cinematic re-release, so why should albums be any different? For new fans such releases can feel like a treat, as we weren't there to witness all the evolving magic first hand. I will never see them live in their prime, so to have a share in the modern celebration of a classic rock band gives me some sort of reason to feel a part of something.

  14. If Half the World is the result, this is one book he should have steered well clear of. I haven't read the book in question, but the lyrics are more reminiscent of Dr. Seuss. Which is fine, if you're four.

  16. Had a long and profound conversation with a friend about personal growth, spirituality, things happening for a reason or plain coincidence, molecules, God, gut feeling, ways of living in the past and how we want to live the future, and everything in between. I love having conversations like that because they are so enriching on a personal and interpersonal level. :)

  22. Without 2112 we probably wouldn't have had any other Rush albums. I love the theme, the story and the music. It just fits flawlessly together. I just wish they could write stuff as interesting as this now. The lyrics are so visual, Geddy's voice so full of emotion and Alex's guitar so grungy and yet so filled with wonder at times. It's pretty much perfect.

  26. I will let you speculate on an answer to your own question. :codger: I am an attention whore however....... :D-13: That sounds like a no to me. I listen to the stuff posted. I am to lazy to "get into" anything at this point in life....... :) You're always commenting on how old you are etc. Stop that! You are the same age as me and I ain't giving up yet. I'm always checking out new bands. My dear, some of us are older than our years would indicate and some such as you are still in the game.. to you for being you :)

  28. Well today i actually found, through Lynda.com, that everytime Geddy pats his head, it gives the sign to the Sound tech to add a small treble tweak to the mic and to raise his bass volume, thats why before the instrumental for Freewill he does this especially for the higher pitch vocal part afterwords.... Doesn't really bother, because they are still true to themselves in vocal, because on the last tour their tech said he barely signaled for it....

  29. The band's best quality, IMO, is their uniqueness. It is impossible to define or describe Rush in terms of any other band. They've made their own unique sound, and that is a major accomplishment in the Rock & Roll world, where the vast majority of bands are basically copycatting past bands. On a personal level, the band's music and lyrics have inspired, amazed, and entertained me to no end. For me, there is Rush.....and then Everyone Else. I listen to plenty of bands in the "Everyone Else" category, but Rush stands far above them.....and I LIKE it that way...... :haz: :haz: :haz:

  30. Rush is untrained (not that they didn't work hard nor hone their craft- they did not go to a school for music. There is a HUGE difference). Probably the best untrained band next to the Beatles. They play by instinct. Neil is the only one of them who can read notation. Geddy and Alex could not tell you what they are doing musically speaking. They do it naturally. When you listen to them you are hearing what comes out of them instinctually. They do not consider theoretical properties when writing. They play what comes out and it is good. They play loud and I am sure the cops shut them down on more than one occasion before they got big. Dream Theater is a band that went to the Berklee College of Music and they sound like a bunch of guys who went to Berklee. If I want to listen to intellectual exercises I will listen to Bach fugues. They spent all their time learning the rules and playing properly and you can hear it. The RRHOF is a sham. In baseball there are quantitative statistics that one can apply to every candidate once they are eligible. Not so for Rock and Roll unless you want to count record and ticket sales, records made, etc. but it isn't really the same is it because it's a popularity contest and not based on hard facts. It's interpretation. Much less Rock and Roll is supposed to be anti-establishment which is why a RRHOF is a joke. As for the moronic statement about my personal hall would include "a bunch of 23 year olds who overdosed that nobody ever heard of..." is not only stupid on the surface it also proves that the person who wrote it cannot read. You have heard of Jimmy Page right? I used him as an example. On the contrary, my hall most certainly would not include non rock artists first of all, including Jazz and would be for Elite bands who changed the landscape. I think some people have heard of a little band called the Beatles. Not exactly overdosing 23 year olds there. There are some heinous omissions still despite the inclusion of Rush and KISS this year and last year. It's for pioneers. ELP, Jethro Tull and or Cheap Trick are very good but not exactly pioneers. ELP and Tull have written some good songs but the masses did not exactly move because of them. I love Sweet but don't think they belong either. Again, it's not a Hall of the very good but great. ELP, Tull and Cheap Trick are good. Very good. But not great. Greatness is not easy to come by. Hell, I can't stand the Rolling Stones but I can't deny that they are one of the greatest bands of all time. This is why the RRHOF is lame. There are no hard/fast quantitative qualifications for entry.
