Lorraine
In all this I have plumb forgot to mention I worked at a Burger King during the summer and part of the fall of 1970. It was back in today when you could get a Whopper, a small fries ,and a 12 ounce drink, AND get change back from a dollar. It was OK work, and a free lunch, which at the time got me into a serious Whaler addiction. Hey, the food was decent back then, the chain was new, and trying to put a dent in the competition from the Whitey One Bites across the street. The job got cut short when the City of Detroit thought I was hot enough shit to work for them, so I did.I used to love Burger King back in high school in the late 70s. Great Burgers and it was the go to hang out place for my friends and I. Now the whoppers are just tasteless calorie piles. I can still taste a good burger, so it's not my tastebuds that went south. Yeah, All of the fast food places were better back then. :codger: Food in general tasted better back then.
Ancient Ways
Best fast food in the Midwest: Culver's. Never had a bad experience. Frozen Custard for desert. :drool:They've been popping up all over the place down here (Tampa). Not a lot of marketing, they just sort of open.

Digital Dad
Remember when Egg McMuffins first came out? I had never even seen an English muffin at that point so it was a revelation. BK tried to follow that up with the Crosiandwhich. Nice try but...no.

Pretty basic fast food choices, but even the salads are pretty top notch. The food is not 'gourmet' level burgers, fries, etc. but just very good and very consistent. That's all I want from fast food. That frozen custard probably melts in 5 seconds in Phoenix. Edited August 14, 2016 by HemiBeers

HemiBeers
I hate Burger Kings new Mac in Cheetos. Then try the new Whopperito :rfl: :rfl: :rfl: :rfl: :rfl:. Seriously, who expects anything good to come out of Burger King? They're doing hotdogs now...oh how original :eyeroll: . It's so hard to find any place that sells a hotdog. goose
Dicks...no, I don't think so. Dicks is about going back in time...and eating on the cheap. Still love it, though! Nothing like eating a big bag of Dick's, eh?Bags and bags and bags. That reminds me of a story. When I was ten, I attended my dad's high school reunion where they had a huge picnic catered with Dick's burgers. I ate at least ten if them. The next day we drove to Yellowstone national park. Sure enough, when we were checking out the geysers, the Dick's burgers kicked in. It felt like "Old faithful" was about to go off in my pants, and the bathroom was a decent walk away. I'll allow the reader to fill in the remaining details. That was a long day.

Stormtron
Out of all the fast food places I've been, I've never had a bad meal at Arby's, Chick fil-A, or Bojangles. The rest vary wildly based on location, but I've gotta say BK is the worst. I don't even try to go there anymore. And the new shit they come up with? The f***ing Whopperito?! No thanks.

Lowe's and Home Depot at the same time. Applebee's and Chili's within 6 months. 2 Frozen yogurt places, each a block away from each other.(both still open, with lines all the time, which says something about our town!) Now we are getting Five Guys and Chick Fil A , both in the same shopping center, this fall. We actually go to a family pizza/sub shop the most. My favorite pizza place in my hometown easily beats out the chains and even the often very good trendier places too. I ALWAYS drop by for some zza when I'm visiting family...actually the entire Blaze clan go together when I visit

They fill the fry container and then dump another complete fry order in the bag. Good fries too...fresh cut that day, started out the day as potatoes. My kid used to work there and hated the grunt job of cutting spuds. Something I learned from my kid, but five guys are religious about cleaning the entire restaurant at night...everything gets a complete scrub down. That's good to hear after those mystery illnesses at Chipotle last year! I have a relative who manages a Sweetgreen restaurant. It's like Panera Bread, but with mostly salads, in the California and DC areas. They are fanatically clean also, at least in the 3 where she has managed and trained.
