Cyclonus X-1
QUOTE (LedRush @ Oct 1 2012, 07:51 PM)QUOTE (Cyclonus X-1 @ Oct 1 2012, 05:50 PM) Fly By Night - In the End Hemispheres - La Villa Strangiato Moving Pictures - The Camera Eye Signals - Digital Man Grace Under Pressure - The Body Electric Counterparts - Nobody's Hero Test for Echo - Resist Vapor Trails - How It Is Snakes & Arrows - Spindrift Worst or Best? I don't think there are any "good" options for "worst" on some of those records. The Camera Eye and La Villa Strangiato are good tunes, but I don't enjoy them as much as I do the other tracks on their respective albums. Of course, I could just "pass" on posting a "worst" for certain releases like some other people are doing, but what would be the point of that? Citing a song as the worst on its album doesn't necessarily indicate that I don't think it's quality material. That being said, I do truly dislike some of those songs (The Body Electric, Spindrift, How It Is, Resist, Nobody's Hero).
waluigithewalrus
Rush- Before and After Fly By Night- Rivendell Caress Of Steel- I Think I'm Going Bald 2112- So hard to chose...Gonna have to go with Lessons, but it's still awesome. A Farewell To Kings- Madrigal Hemispheres- Circumstances Permanent Waves- Entre Nous Moving Pictures- Tom Sawyer. Everything else on the album is much more complex than Tom Sawyer (besides Neil's part), even if it is still a fantastic song, thus I like this song least on the album. Signals-Countdown P/G-Red Lenses Power Windows: Emotion Detector Hold Your Fire- Tai Shan. Presto- Hand Over Fist Roll The Bones- Face Up Counterparts- The Speed of Love Test For Echo- Dog Years Vapor Trails: Never really heard anything off of this Snakes And Arrows- Good New First Clockwork Angels- Wish Them Well Edited October 2, 2012 by waluigithewalrus
rushgoober
Rush - Before and After (though still a good song) Fly By Night - Rivendell (though still a good song) Caress Of Steel - I Think I'm Going Bald 2112 - Lessons (though still a good song) A Farewell To Kings - Cygnus X-1 (almost chose Madrigal, but there are parts of Cygnus - the narration and the screaming that really bug me) Hemispheres - none (worst track? on hemispheres???) Permanent Waves - Different Strings (though still a good song) Moving Pictures - The Camera Eye (still great, just a little repetitive and lyrically uninteresting) Signals - Digital Man (by a tiny hair, though still a GREAT song) Grace Under Pressure - Kid Gloves (again by a tiny hair and still a great song) Power Windows - Middletown Dreams (still a good song) Hold Your Fire - Tai Shan (narrowly beating out High Water - both on an otherwise truly excellent album) Presto - lots to choose from - Superconductor, Anagram and Hand Over Fist are all pretty equally bad, with War Paint and Scars close behind - and those aren't even all the weak songs on the album Roll The Bones - again, a bevy of songs to choose from - Face Up, Neurotica, Heresy, You Bet Your Life and The Big Wheel all get a , as well as an honorary for the rap section of the title track Counterparts - Everyday Glory (though still a decent song) Test For Echo - Tie with Dog Years, Virtuality & Totem, but there are a few others on this album that are pretty meh Vapor Trails - take your pick - the first 15 seconds of OLV are pretty cool, but the rest of it is garbage Snakes & Arrows - Good News First (due to the lyrics not making sense), followed closely by Bravest Face, The Larger Bowl and Faithless Clockwork Angels - BU2B2

pdurbin22
RUSH = Here Again (too long for the limited variations) FBN = Rivendell (boring for a ballad) COS = I Think I'm Going Bald (sounds like an outtake from the first album) 2112 = Twilight Zone (good intro, but the rest is boring) AFTK = Madrigal (a nice breather tune I guess, but not much else) HEMISPHERES = Hemishperes (ONLY because Side 2 is flawless and a few parts of the title track do drag a bit) PERM WAV = Jacob's Ladder (always been the weak link on this otherwise spectacular album for me) MP = Witch Hunt (love the eerie feeling and main riff, but it's overall just a tad dull compared to the rest) SIGNALS = The Weapon (too cheesily robotic) GUP = The Body Electric (the 1-0-0 chorus is one of my least favs) POW WIN = Emotion Detector (I don't think it's coincidence that this is the only song never played live from this album) HYF = Tai Shan (is an explanation really needed?) PRESTO = Presto (would've picked about 5 other songs from this album to hear on the TM tour) RTB = Heresy (not really bad, just not the best) COUNTERPARTS = Alien Shore (the "sex is not a competition" chorus turns me off) TFE = Dog Years (one of several clunkers on this album, but this is the worst offender) VT = Freeze (I'd be okay to never hear this, Stars Look Down or Out of the Cradle ever again) S&A = Faithless (the other song on the TM tour I could've done without) CA = Wish Them Well (the only song I don't dig on an otherwise stellar album, and that includes the much-maligned BU2B2, which I think works very well as a song bridge)

Lost In Xanadu
QUOTE (rushgoober @ Oct 2 2012, 08:10 AM) Grace Under Pressure - Kid Gloves (again by a tiny hair and still a great song) Power Windows - Middletown Dreams (still a good song) Wow - I wasn't expecting to see Kid Gloves on any list. Here is mine (Rank of easiness of pick*): 1. Before & After (15) 2. Rivendell (2) 3. Going Bald (3) 4. Tears (13) 5. Madrigal (16) 6. Circumstances (19) 7. Different Strings (20) 8. Witch Hunt (17) 9. Countdown (14) 10. Red Lenses (4) 11. Mystic Rhythms (18) 12. High Water (6) 13. Superconductor (5) 14. Neurotica (8) 15. Speed Of Love (12) 16. Virtuality (7) 17. Sweet Miracle (10) 18. Summertime Blues (9) 19. Good News First (11) 20. BU2B2 (1) * Easiness of pick is not necessarily a rank of my least favorite songs, it's how much one track really jumped out as the worst on the album to me, and the easier it was identified, the lower number it got. BU2B2 is easily far and away the worst song on CA.
pxr5
I started to think about listing mine, but maybe it's just too painful to state the worse song on each album. And I honestly doubt I could do them all anyway. Some that have been listed so far have been like "OMG how could you ever chose that track". But each to their own I guess. Stormtron
Hemispheres was the only one I had trouble with. The title track and La Villa were automatically safe. Circumstances just barely edges out The Trees for me.
barchetta90480
QUOTE (dethroned emperor @ Oct 2 2012, 02:24 AM) Grace Under Pressure - Distant Early Warning Probably their best opener ever ... and the opener is usually the best song on the album. To each his own though ... Rush - In the Mood (cheesiest Rush song ever) Fly by Night - Rivendell Caress - ITIGB 2112 - Lessons Farewell - Madrigal (though I even like that one a lot) Hemispheres - Hemispheres (probably the easiest choice of all for me) PermWaves - tough, but certainly not Different Strings. One of the most interesting songs in their catalogue. Entre nous, if any. Moving Pictures - see above, with Vital Signs replacing Different Strings. And Limelight replacing Entre Nous. Signals - Countdown, clearly GUP - Between the Wheels (which is a 10/10 song among 11/10 songs) Power Windows - Emotion Detector Hold Your Fire - Tai Shan Presto - Hand Over Fist Roll the Bones - now there's a couple ... but it has to be Heresy for the lyrics and the dull music (nearly on par, though, with Bravado, Big Wheel and You Bet Your Life Counterparts - The Speed of Love Test for Echo - Virtuality (Dog Years has comical values, at least) Vapor Trails - The Stars Look Down (as nearly all the others are great though not stellar, and I mean it) Feedack: 7&7is Snakes: Spindrift Clockwork: Caravan, easily

CygnusGal
QUOTE (GeddyRulz @ Oct 3 2012, 01:03 PM)QUOTE (barchetta90480 @ Oct 2 2012, 02:19 PM) In the Mood (cheesiest Rush song ever) Agreed! God knows why they used it as an encore song for so many tours! This typical rock song with its dopey lyrics is beneath them. It may be their worst song EVER. IMO, In the Mood lyrics are adolescent and not very eloquent ("well hey now baby"?) its a pretty straight ahead rock song. Cheesier than RTB title track? The rapping skeleton is pretty cheesy. I can think of one or two other examples of some pretty cheesy Rush lyrics, too. And just to defend my crazy choices to goob, Hemispheres - The Sphere: I had to choose something, there's only 4 tracks to choose from and they all rock. I subdivided side 1 into its parts and relative to the rest of side, The Sphere gets the "least favorite" tag. Geddy singing to a guitar. As a rhythm section fan, it is my least favorite. Hemispheres is my number 3 album - hard to choose on this one. There are no bad tracks on this album for me. Permanent Waves - Jacob's Ladder: A lot of people choose DS on this album. I love DS. Alex totally melts down at the end of this song. DS can't be least to me for that reason and the band is dynamic and beautiful. EN - I was like Billy Corgan in BTLS. I played that song for my mother. It spoke to me. As a disaffected youth, that was me reaching out. NS, TSOR and Freewill are out of bounds for me. JL is all that's left. Although, when I wear my "heresy hat", Rush has stronger songs in their catalog and Jacob's Ladder is just a mediocre song to me. Hold Your Fire - Time Stand Still: I questioned my faith in Rush with this song. Guest vocalist? WTF? I thought Rush was done with this song and this album. Very poppy, very synthy, very 80s ("Why is the premier power trio in the world buried under all of those synthesizers?" - as Peter Collins wondered). My sister, the Duran Duran fan, loved it. I remember her saying Rush finally sounded "normal". I actually used to sit during this song for the first few tours when originally performed - much to the confused looks of other fans. "This isn't how they're supposed to sound!" was my response. I have since learned to appreciate this song, know the words, will sing to it in concert. I like the lyrics and the thought behind them. It is a pleasant melody. My original opinion, tempered though it may be, remains. Well, that's my ramble...
