The Taking Of Pelham 123

The remake or the original?

Didn't know there was an original, so the remake. :)

The original features Walter Matthau, Robert Shaw, Martin Balsam and Hector Elizondo and is much better.

The music is really cool too.

The remake is entertaining but I can't compare it to the original. The remake however is very typical of Tony Scott which may be too Hollywood for some.

Love this movie. There are some things that are off-putting but my inner child love trains too much to care. I feel there is a tip of the hat to Spielberg's Jaws and Duel (i.e. the sound when the truck goes over the edge of the cliff) but it's done too much here.

The color grading is magnificent!

The remake features John Travolta in crazed bad guy mode...

I've seen all these three before but I was in the mood to revisit them...

Love the 1st two but Prometheus was a letdown. Just being better than the AvP movies and Aliens 3 and 4 doesn't automatically make it good. Wasted potential. Charlize, as usual, is awesome in another icy bitch role. Not too different from the Paul Reiser role in Aliens.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Yeah it's like Ridley wanted Prometheus to be as good and suspenseful as Alien but he didn't want to use the Xenomorph because it he knew it would just turn into Alien 5. But they couldn't think of anything better so they ended up doing much of the same things; space company employees on a ship waking up from suspended animation, chestburster scene, hostile alien, traitor robot who gets his head ripped off etc. It's just a bad version of Alien disguised as something new but it didn't deliver anything new at all. And it's boring, with no suspense really and the performances were mediocre outside of Fassbender. Rapace was too hysterical, Idris Elder's accent sounds like what it is, an English guy doing a poor American accent, and the rest were either overacting or phoning it in. I'm getting a bit tired of Guy Pierce's "eccentric" turns as well. All in all it was worse than I thought it was the first time.

it looks good though.

I kinda love that movie

It was ok, it kept me watching.

it was kind of an updated version of the original 1967 Planet of the Apes, with a devastated world, highlighted by a ruined statue of liberty, only with robot aliens and the "apes" aka the alien scavs are actually people in disguise.

I remember reading about this film in a horror magazine back around 1990 when the film was a few weeks away from release. The article included movie stills and pictures of the sets, promo pics, a preview, a review etc. It took my attention because the Exorcist director William Friedkin was the man with the megaphone and clapperboard for this one. I never got to see the film at the time though and I've never got around to seeing it since until now. Well to be honest I shouldn't have bothered, watching it was a pretty tedious experience, most of it anyway. The story was daft (an evil homicidal tree) the script was dull, the acting was weak, the action scenes were badly conceived, or badly shot, or badly choreographed or all three and none were convincing. The ending was a little more entertaining probably because it reminded me of Evil Dead II as the male protagonist took a chainsaw to the tree, his facial expressions were a little like Ash's too. I laughed at these scenes but I don't think you were supposed to be laughing (who's laughing now?). Maybe they should have made the whole thing like that and called it Evil Dead Tree... Ironically I just read this on the film's wiki page: "Sam Raimi was originally attached to the project but dropped out to direct Darkman instead..." He must have read the Guardian script...but then forgot to read Darkman's script...

The Exorcist III and The Guardian are linked in my mind, probably because they were released around the same time, and because of the William Friedkin-William Peter Blatty Exorcist connection. I hadn't seen either until today though but they were still linked in my mind. Some films you are on your mind when you haven't even seen them. Anyway Friedkin didn't direct this one Blatty did, perhaps Friedkin should have though because it has a better story, a better script and a better cast. It looks better too, so maybe this fillm is better off with Blatty. Watching these two films back to back, right away The Exorcist III is just way better, it has a genuinely creepy atmosphere, it's more powerful, and much more interesting. It helps having George C Scott and Ed Flanders (not the Simpsons guy, the St Elsewhere Flanders) and Brad Dourif and Nichol Williamson and Jason Miller who all deliver quality performances (along with most of the supporting cast) and overall it's a quality horror production. In fact I think I enjoyed this second sequel more than the much more celebrated original.

I like Peggy too...but the craziest thing about the series for me is to realize how much the offices have changed since the 60s. I never knew that drinking in the office used to be standard practice!!!

"Poetic Justice" is my favorite segment.

"And All Through the House" was done better later on in the TV series - but it's still great here too.

Ikr?! So much of the show is amazing as it reveals a world I sort of recognise, and yet so much is alien.

The sexism, the racism, the role of women in the workplace...

...I love how it handles all these issues with tact and grace. I have never loved a drama series so much in my life.

Started rewatching the Harry Potter movies from the beginning the other night while I'm recovering from my back surgery. Not much to do but lay around, take pills and watch movies.

Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.

Was somewhat disappointed. The characters seems like caricatures of themselves but that's when you get when Spielberg goes into his adventure mode.

As far as I am concerned this film never existed.

The original trilogy is more than enough for me (I love them).
