rushgoober
Ok, here's the rules. How many Rush songs would you skip? Be honest! Obviously this includes any song you would always skip over if you put on a Rush CD, BUT ALSO, (AND THIS PART IS VERY IMPORTANT): if there's an album that you say you wouldn't skip any tracks on, but when it comes down to practical reality, you never want to play the album AT ALL, then all tracks count as skippers. Be honest here - saying you can find something to appreciate about all Rush doesn't mean you've played any given album in years or ever realistically intend to again. That would count as 8 or 10 or however many songs as SKIPS.
rushgoober
I count: Caress of Steel - 2 (ITIGB & The Necromancer) HYF - 2 (Tai Shan & High Water) Presto - 8 (all songs except for the first three) RTB - 7 (all songs except Dreamline, Bravado & Where's My Thing) T4E - 11 (not a horrible album, but honestly I never want to play it and haven't in quite a long time) VT - 13 (all of 'em) S&A - 4 (Faithless, Bravest Face, Good News First & We Hold On) CA - 1 (BU2B) That's a total of 48. Yikes! Only 4 from their first 12 albums 44 from their last 9 (including Feedback & Clockwork Angels)
Mr. Not
I skip quite a lot, actually... But if you just want ones I skip always (95% of the time will count as always, I even listen to something as bad as Tai Shan sometimes): RUSH tracks 3-7 FBN - Making Memories 2112 - Tears PoW - track 8 HYF - Tai Shan & High Water Presto - Available light RTB - all but tracks 1-3 5 & 7 (so half of it..) Test For Echo - Time and Motion Full list: RUSH tracks 3-7 FBN - Making Memories, In the End (I like in the end but not every time..) CoS - The Necromancer 2112 - Tears AFTK - perfect album. Hemispheres - Book II, usually PeW - Rarely listen to this album as a whole because it all sounds too different. It's either Spirit of Radio, Freewill, and maybe Entre Nous or Jacob's Ladder and Natural Science. So there's an odd one. MP - Witch Hunt sometimes, always Vital signs. Signals - Losing It most of the time.. Grace - perfect album. PoW - sometimes tracks 2, 3 & always 8 HYF - Tai Shan & High Water Presto - War Paint, Scars, Available light. RTB - only listen to tracks 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7. Face up & Neurotica are okay sometimes. Counterparts - It really depends with this album. Tracks 2, 3, 7, and 8 are fantastic. Test For Echo - Half the World sometimes, Time and Motion Vapor Trails - None. S&A - Sometimes: TLB, TMMB (drags on for too long), Faithless, WHO... Flight YYZ
Alright. Honest? Presto is my favorite studio album, but I always skip "show don't tell". I just don't like it. But every other track, I truly love. On A Show of Hands, I skip Witch Hunt. Never was into it. And furthermore, I skip most of the second half of Moving Pictures. It depends on my mood. I really love this band. I would listen to them if they played Tia Shan in concert, two or three times in a row. And I'd still love them. I'm not fond of 2112. I love Hemispheres, Rush, Fly by Night and Caress of Steel to Death. Hope this helps.

D3strukt
I'm a huge rush fan. However, I usually stick to 2 or three albums at a time (I blame my AD/HD for not letting me sit through an entire album, yet I can sit through a 20 minute song lol.) Like, for example, I never touch RUSH. FBY: I occasionally listen to Anthem, BBB, and BTSD. Carress of Steel: Rarely, but it's usually FOL That I listen to. 2112: I usually listen to APTB FWTK: All of it except for Madrigal. Hemispheres: I skip Hemispheres. Everything else is fine PEW: Hmmm, It depends on the mood i'm in, sometimes I skip JL MP: Great album, but I HATE Witch Hunt. Signals: I can deal with every song except Losing it. p/g: Not a big fan of Body Electric, and by not a big fan, I mean hate. PoW: Hate Mystic Rhythms. HYF: I hardly ever listen to this album, but when I do, it's usually Open Secrets, and Lock and Key. Everything else is skippable. Presto: AWESOME album, Except for SDT, and Superconductor. Blegh. RTB: Another great album, but I usually skip Heresy Counterparts: I like everything except Speed of Love, and Cut to the Chase T4E: Another one that varies on mood, can't decide VT: I NEVER listen to this, because of production issues. S&A: Love everything except TMMB, SPINDRIFT, Good News First, and Mal-Nar.
Xanadu93
0 Asides from not hearing any skip-worthy songs by Rush (I would say "Anagram" but the piano in the bridge saves it ), I'm an album purist, in that I listen to albums uninterrupted, without skipping songs. New World Kid
QUOTE (rushgoober @ Aug 12 2010, 05:36 PM) if there's an album that you say you wouldn't skip any tracks on, but when it comes down to practical reality, you never want to play the album AT ALL, then all tracks count as skippers. Due to this clause, the way I understand it, every song is a skipable song. There are times when I play an album for one song, then play it for another later. So at any given time, all Rush songs could be skipped. Did I misunderstand?

Bastille Dave
by and large their worst songs they dont play live (many would argue otherwise but for the most part...). Like "Tears" for example. I hear 2112 side 1, Something For Nothing, and Passage To Bangkok dozens of times in bootlegs. So when I listen to the 2112 album, I dont skip "Tears" because I hardly ever hear it, same with Madrigal, Different Strings, Losing It, etc...they arent on ANY bootlegs. So I rarely skip songs. At least the old stuff. The newer stuff (last 20 years) I dont really hate any of it, I just listen to the album til I get bored with it.
SlyJeff
So I'm going to have to alter your criteria a little because of my listening habits. There are only a few albums I ever put on in album order- usually its one playlist or another. So here are the Rush songs that aren't in any playlist I actively listen to (I use star ratings along side dynamic playlists in iTunes, and I'll downgrade songs while listening if I feel like they aren't songs I'll generally want to listen to): The Speed of Love Rivendell In The End Need Some Love Take A Friend Here Again In The Mood Before And After Chemistry Digital Man Faithless Dog Years Carve Away The Stone I Think I'm Going Bald The Necromancer The Fountain of Lamneth Madrigal All of VT except for the remixes of OLV and Earthshine I'll also will say S&A is an album I put on in a lot and I do not skip "Faithless" in that case. Same is true of "Chemistry" and "Digital Man".

EmotionDetector
If I had to say "always", then I couldn't vote here at all. Honestly, I am good with any Rush song...and I don't hate any enough to skip everytime. I also find that it all depends on what my mood is when listening to an album that particular day. So, since I still want to play, I will just go with a realistic list of what I would be most likely to skip on an average listen. Rush - 3 (Need Some Love, Take a Friend, Before & After) FBN - 2 (Making Memories, Rivendell) 2112 - 1 (Tears) Signals - 1 (New World Man) P/G - 1 (The Body Electric) HYF - 2 (Tai Shan, High Water) Presto - 1 (War Paint) RTB - 4 (Face Up, The Big Wheel, Heresy, You Bet Your Life) T4E - 3 (Half The World, Colour of Right, Carve Away The Stone) VT - 4 (Peaceable Kingdom, Sweet Miracle, Freeze, Out of The Cradle) S&A - 1 (Faithless) So...23 in total. Again, I still like all of them. But this is a list of songs I seem to skip more often.

rushgoober
QUOTE (ghostworks @ Aug 13 2010, 06:49 AM) TOTAL: 43 tracks ^ it looks like a lot of songs listed like that, but Rush has almost 150 studio tracks to their credit that means I 'kinda like' to 'really love' over 100 of those 150-odd songs that's an incredibly high 'killer to filler' ratio - for any band VERY good point! I count there being 163 Rush songs if you include only their studio albums, including Feedback and the recent single. Anyway, out of 163 songs, I'll listen to 115 of them. That's just over 70%! And that's 115 songs, by ONE group!!! For a group that's been around for 35+ years, that's an amazing percentage for me. And of the 48 songs I'll skip, 39 of them are from four albums. That means for 15 of their albums (including Feedback plus the new single), I'll only skip NINE tracks total. That to me is an amazing statistic! Of course to those who don't skip any or only a few of their tracks total, those statistics might still seem kind of pathetic. What can I say? I like what I like and I've tried to like that which I don't like. There is only one group that fares better for me, but it's in a completely different genre. The group Popol Vuh has about 21 albums (depending on how you count them), and I'll listen to all of them all the way through except for 3 albums that I'll never put on, and 1 other that I would rarely put on.
